Matt Smyth used to be the director and came from Baylor in the early 2000's and worked with Dr. Golemo and Barry Larkin I believe. Is it the same one? I heard he left and went to Indiana university.

Different one. The director you're thinking of is Matt Smith, this new director is Steven Smyth.

Matt Smith went to Indiana, but just took a job at KU.

Tremendous Music program. taught at central oklahoma and is now ISU's marching band director and will do a hellava job. As a former drummer he will get it done.

Serious question:

If you were a big Hawk fan, why would you even want to be in the ISU band? I don't get it.

My neighbor is a huge Cyclone fan but was in the Iowa band when he attended. He said clone shorts would not fly there.

I'm still somewhat in the loop. The New Unis will debut this year. They are not in yet though. Will hopefully have them for the opener.



Also, the band is getting an entrance video on the new scoreboard.

Very psyched to see the new band stuff including the entrance on the scoreboard! Will this be prior to games or intro at half?? I don't want to miss it!

Yes. They march in Kinnick every Saturday.

I always thought the band was great. Except for the drumline who went down the crapper after Nick Hoover graduated. Lotsa power, energy, certainly in the top 5 in the Big 12.

The drumline this year has potential to be one of the best in recent past. It is going to be a solid year all throughout the line.

Fun fact: Mr. Smyth (the director) was one of the people who wrote the ending to Cowbell when he was in the line.

edit: and by the way the line is more than just cowbell. We have our other set...also if the depth was good wouldn't that make cowbell better? The answer is yes!

Ya he's the reason Dowling got so good.

He did a nice job there. The current director also a graduate of ISU is a absolute Beast as a Director and his Percussion sections are the best in Iowa. Currently has 41 percussionists in the Marching Band, 23 in the battery and 18 in the pit. Huge line.

If I'm remembering what Mr. Smyth told us correctly, then the video is being put together by the people who make the football video and will be played before the band goes on the field for pregame. Should be pretty sweet!
