Even if it is ten wins?
Ten wins may be a dream at this point.
IF Dendy really is in trouble. IF someone else leaves or worse yet two someones leave....
Heck we may be lucky to have 10 PLAYERS next year.

Sure player relations might improve but what does it matter if these guys aren't going to help us get the kind of players we need to win? It will be more the of the same except for a different problem.I like the potential Grayer/Nurse combination. I think it adds to the player relations overall, and the coaching ability of the staff with Nurse. Both have been lacking in recent years.
I read the article. It sounds like Jeff's boss there in Flynt was a little more demanding than McDermott's boss.

He was probably smart enough not to extend Grayer's contract prior to needing to fire him.
I think we all know what Jeff's job was in that program. His job was to be Jeff Grayer and collect $66k a year. A former playground star who made good but was returning home to give back while doing little more than being a name.
I would guess nearly every city in America has a similar position. If he couldn't do that job right, I don't see what makes anyone believe that he could benefit our basketball program.
at this point it's desperation time in which he should be trying to get the best possible recruiters in here to try and save his job.
There has to be somebody who has SOME recruiting ties right? Maybe somebody that has been involved in college basketball within the past five years..We lost our best possible recruiter in Daniyal Robinson. If McDermott couldn't convince DR (a native Iowan) to stay one more year in Ames, who is going to want to relocate to ISU for what very well could be a 10-month stay?

Gail A. Ganakas, executive director of community education and relations who was Grayer’s boss, is now overseeing the program. She was not available for comment.
In Grayer’s employment evaluation dated June 29, 2009, Ganakas wrote that Grayer is passionate in helping children, has access to major contributors for the district and maintained and trained 623 mentors who helped 998 students in the 2008-09 school year.
But, Ganakas wrote that Grayer needed to submit a recruitment improvement plan with specific updates required: “In the third year of the district’s Mentors Committed to Excellence Program, the slight increase in mentors (623) reflects a lack of accountability of daily, weekly, monthly logs.”
The program had 795 mentors in the 2007-08 school year, a 105 percent jump from the previous school year, according to FOIA information.
Grayer, who continues to work with more than 70 students through Flint Athletes for Better Education, said each August he had to renew relationships with past mentors to encourage them to return, as well as recruit new ones.
Some mentors have left the area because of the economy, he said.
“We were recruiting and getting the troops ready so to speak, but not really getting them acclimated into the building,” Grayer said.
“I just sincerely hope that they continue to push the program forward because it really is truly needed,” he added.

What do you know of Grayer's ability to interact with the players? I'd be interested in knowing what insight you have.
Just an impression. Jeff was a really, really talented player, and came off as really grounded and humble. And he's a Cyclone through and through. I'll take my chances with him.
I am not going against any of you who are skeptical of this hire but answer this? Jeff has as much major college experience in coaching as does Nurse (whom people are insanely thinking could be our next HC) why is he a poor hire and Nurse is not? Jeff has minor league coaching experince in pro basketball just like Nurse.
I will promise you he has better recruiting connections that does Nurse.
I am not saying he is the next big thing in coaching but we have had worse on our bench. (Lance Irvin, Tres Chapman, the dude who admirable filled in for Bob Sunvold when he quit right before camp)
Jeff is so blessed that WM did not want him to work onhis staff. Otherwise he would be tainted worse than some of you make him out to be.
We could do better- we have done worse...
I never said you had to believe me...Just my opinion.
Huh?

EXCELLENT POINT! The thing is that I have no real interest in the career of Nick Nurse. He seems like a nice guy, but what do I know? I feel like I have an emotional investment in Jeff Grayer, because of our shared ISU legacy.
If Nick Nurse jumps aboard the HMS McDermott and crashed into the iceberg with the rest of the staff, it sucks to be him but that's the nature of coaching.
If Jeff Grayer goes down with that ship, we run the risk of alienating a great former player and a good guy who still loves ISU and the fanbase. I really hate the idea of that being a possibility.
You compared Mac to other coaches that you don't hate, you just hope they never win. I love it when our "fans" hope "our" teams lose so that their own objective is achieved. Classy...
