Assistant coach rumor I am hearing

I think he could be a good addition especially from a recruiting standpoint. Played several years in NBA, played on an Olympic team, would likely be a strong recruiter in the Detroit/Flint area where Orr used to recruit from.

I would just be a little surprised if he was even interested though.

I have no idea on the timetable...Staff is extremely busy, but I would imagine getting another assistant up and running is a priority.

My guess is that priority number 1 is fielding a team to play with next year...and a necessity to achieiving that priority is having a full staff out on the recruting trial. Let's face it, our backs are against the wall with the dwindling pool of players, and we have some work to do.

I've been saying it for awhile now...Life is not as bad as many of you think.

I'm not sure if I would go that far. It is pretty bad to still be looking for 3-4 players at this point, while most other schools have their classes wrapped up.

You should live by your name. SHow me where anyone has said those things.

You got enough time for a remedial course in logic? You don't understand the whole concept of "exaggeration to prove a point", or are you going to demand that I produce tape of GMac cultists saying those EXACT PHRASES before you put down your torches & pitchforks?

Here's the Cliff Notes of what I said. Ask some of the other guys to help you out with the big scary words if you find something you don't understand.

I respect Jeff Grayer as a man and as an ISU icon.

I believe that the main reason for the consideration for adding him to the staff is that he will quiet some of the criticism from those unreasonable idiots who think that an 18-50 conference record over 4 years is unacceptable.

I believe that some of GMac's more vocal defenders will spin any legitimate criticism of GMac's failings as the MBB coach into unreasonable attacks on an ISU icon.

I hope for the best if Jeff Grayer is hired to be an assistant coach at ISU, but I fear that he won't be able to overcome the mistakes already made here and the relationship between Jeff and the fanbase may suffer. That would suck. He doesn't deserve any blame for what's happened before his hiring, and as an apprentice coach, he'll be damn near blameless for everything bad that may happen even AFTER his hire. I worry that his blind loyalty to ISU might cloud his judgement and get him to hitch his wagon to a loser.

zap.

Cylent but deadly.

At least Grayer could bring 2 recruits with him - both of his sons started as JUCO sophomores at Oakland Community College. Kevin Grayer had some pretty good stats for a team that was ranked during the season.

Also, with the rumor that Oetzelberger will be leaving too, I think a staff of Nurse, Grayer and Greg Haier would be a solid staff.

I would just be a little surprised if he was even interested though.

Did you miss this part:

Grayer was later hired in 2007 by the Genesee County Patriots North American Football League Franchise as a Director of Recruiting.

I would guess the resumes have been going out fast and furiously shortly after '07.

Also, Miller said that a player would be named from the 80's and part of his name could be found as a color in a box of crayons.

I think it's an interesting hire, although not in a good way. People put way, way too much stock in former players being able to recruit. No one in high school knows his name. He'll be an old guy who played a long time ago to them.

Wasn't he a graduate assistant with us already?

I was at ISU for Jeff's last couple of years, and I still love the guy. He's a quality man who represents the ISU community with integrity (real integrity, not fake PR integrity).

What bothers me is the OBVIOUS use of this hire to try and quiet deserved criticism of GMac by the non-KoolAid drinkers. "Hey, we've got Grayer on the staff! You can't say anything negative about the GMac or the staff now, because you're slamming Grayer! What kind of a pervert doesn't like Grayer? Probably the same sort who likes to strangle puppies."

I really, really hope this hire works out, but with Jeff's relatively small resume at this point in his career, my opinion is that he's being trotted out as a diversionary tactic, and I for one have too much respect for what Jeff Grayer means to ISU to want to see his legacy tarnished this way.

Who is defending Greg? Who is saying you can't hate everyone but Grayer if you want to hate everyone? Grayer's legacy is set in stone, nothing can change that. No one is defending Greg. Let people be happy a great cyclone might be returning.

This wouldn't be Grayers first time around an ISU coaching opportunity. Didn't he and Barry try to come in after LE? Also...wasn't he on WM staff for a cup of coffee? I swear he was at a Cyclone Shootout as one of the assist.
