We have only recently achieved mediocrity. Cyclone fan since the hiring of Johnny Majors. Went to games at Clyde. Spent the majority of time in the bottom half……..hoping for mediocrity. Even with last year and this year, we are still way above the levels of our recent coaches. And have a New Year’s Bowl win.
If ISU goes 6-6 is it that bad?
There were signs in 2019 but the *2020 season gave people some pretty blurry vision.
No. And I could live with 5-7 if they show improvement and finish strong. I just think this team is a long ways from even being a 5-7 team. Its the trajectory of the program and talent gap on offense that is my concern.
We have had adversity and lost starters due to the betting. Give them time. We have some new assistants. BVD came in 2000. Penny pincher that balanced the books. JP came in 2005. JP has transformed the program. I guess I have more faith in JP and CMC to fix things. And I know that firing CMC would be the most idiotic thing we could do at this time. Even talking about firing CMC is idiotic.
Unfortunately that's all part of it. There are plenty of good coaches who have lost momentum and lost programs. Sometimes bad luck and timing kills coaches.

Losing is contagious and digging out a win even if it's against a bad team was really important.
IMO our program is still on solid ground. We are far above the level that we were at before CMC came. I do not think the fix is major. But we do need to be fixed. CMC is not happy with losses either.
We were down to OSU 7-0. This team could have easily folded. But they fought back. They took control. And won the game. As fans we should respond with positive support. Build the team’s confidence. The negativity might make you feel better as you vent your frustrations. But it is not helpful. And what exactly are you trying to attain with your negativity?
Mediocrity is what I crave for the program these days.

Here is athletic revenue by schools. Looking at the Hateful 8, our $111M is behind KU but ahead of WVU, TT, OSU, and KSU. Honestly all those schools are pretty close.
We are all ahead of the new adds UCF, Houston, and Cincy.
Going forward, CU looks to be behind us. UA, ASU, and Utah look to be a bit ahead, about the same level as KU.
I would say we are probably top half of the new league for AD revenue. I believe we also have the second largest stadium now just a couple thousand behind BYU. This is a far cry from our place in the B12 of 20 years ago.
That Big 12 had Nebraska, aTm, Missouri, and Colorado. They left but Colorado now back. Unequal revenue sharing. Big wealthy athletic departments. Things look better as far as the future being competitive.
FWIW, I’m with you but, that factors into my expectations. The teams you likely want ISU to have results like, have a lot more fans who live/die/bleed with their $ to support their program.
We don’t lack for passionate fan base, but we are a frugal and relatively lean bunch (on national #s)

Haven't lost yet so no factor to your point: OU, Texas
Since losing them: Nebby generally awful, Mizzou usually awful, Atm good but we only played them half the time anyway.

I just think the changing makeup of the league, the move to equal revenue sharing, and the improved commitment to football over the last 20 years really raise the question of what the expectation should be for ISU football today. I think simply measuring against what has been done here previously doesn't give a complete picture.
Back when Mac got us to his first bowl game we were miles behind our conference mates for money, facilities, TV exposure, fan support, and on and on. I don't see that as the case today, and certainly not going forward. So I don't think success here is simply determined by how we compare to the CPR era, the Mac era, or all the putrid futility that came before.
I must have missed the other Big 12 championship we played in. Or the other Fiesta Bowl we won. Or the other trips to San Antonio or Orlando for bowl games. I mean i know you have a vendetta against him but I don’t think it’s even a question that he is the best coach in ISU history and I’ve been attending since 1985.
Somehow I’m guessing that you and JoeFrog would still be throwing a tantrum if we exceed 5-7 this year.
Getting to a bowl game 4 out of every 6 years should be the goal. Having a 8+ win season 20% of the time.
