And I’m so tired of seeing people crapping on the players to stan the coaching staff, when we have seen ample evidence over the years that the latter is the problem.

Where in my post did I call out OUR players? I talked about Bama and Clemson’s players and overall talking about how it doesn’t matter what year you are in. Every single program and coach that has success has down years or rough seasons.

Our players are pretty solid and I don’t think Campbell has done his job letting go of his pride on offensive philosophy, which is literally what I said in my post. Reading is hard.

I am so tired of hearing the Year 7, Year 8, Year 9 blah blah blah. It's like how stupid investors and corporations think. The line can't and never will always go up. Look at Bama and Clemson right now. Did Saban and Swinney forget how to coach? Nope. But their current crop of players isn't quite as good, or maybe these guys aren't gelling as well as past teams, etc. It doesn't matter what year it is, as this isn't the NFL where you can have your franchise QB for 10+ years.

In saying that, yes there are coaching philosophies Campbell clearly needs to drop the pride on and adapt. But take our dumb rival Iowa. They could have canned Kirk several times because "Hey it's year 10 WTF?" And then they turn around and win 10+ games, go to the Big Ten Championship, etc.

The issue isn’t the record, it’s that the same weaknesses are present. That means they are due to coaching flaws. Magnified due to not having good NFL skill position players to mask it

An OL should not perform like last Saturday, but if it does, it should occur in the first few seasons. To never have developed a top OL, and have arguably a better OL in Year 1 than Year 8 is highly suggestive of a major staff weakness

To have the same lack of detail and unforced execution mistakes over many years, potentially more, is a bad sign

The Year 8 narrative isn’t about needing monotonic success. It’s about reaching a large enough sample that more of the same weaknesses is incriminating. Patience has run thin on waiting to have a good OL and ST, good at the margins, having an offense that’s collectively better than the individual talent (like the defense has been), etc

Maybe it finally comes, but after 8 attempts at it, perhaps CMC just isn’t good at those things, and we’ll never max out a roster under him.

McCarney was lb for lb the best recruiting head coach we've had since I've been alive(1980). His first staff was really good. He outrecruited what we had for football infrastructure for sure.

I get you think so lowly of Iowa St you feel staffs cannot be criticized for flaws consistent for 7 seasons, but I don’t. And such criticism is not “running off”

We didn’t lose 2 games because of new coaches or new starters. We lost because of the same CMC flaws that cost us winnable games every year, particularly early season games. Perhaps he learned something after Ohio, but the Ok St game was like the last 6.

I'm in MIssouri. Missouri had a coach named Warren Powers in the 70's and 80's. Older fans may remember him. From 1978 to 1984 he had 6 winning seasons and 1 losing season. His non-conference schedule in his only losing season was Illinois, Wisconsin, Notre Dame and Mississippi State. Missouri fired him. Missouri then proceeded to have 12 consecutive losing seasons under 3 other coaches.

The problem wasn't Warren Powers. The problem was Missouri. I'm 15 minutes from the stadium and don't attend games. If Missouri had Matt Campbell I'd start going to games. If ISU fired Campbell he won't be unemployed for long.

Most successful coach in history. But having the most success at ISU is like being the reigning 100 meter dash champion at fat camp.

He also has the luxury of being the most well supported coach in ISU history. Nobody has been as well positioned regarding resources and support relative to our conference peers as we have been during Campbell's tenure.

Wiggington was a freshman in 2018 when that post was apparently made. That following year we made the NCAA’s in the last bit of success that Prohm had. Good recruiter. Couldn’t coach. Wanted TJ but supported the decisions made by Pollard to hire Prohm. And supported him while he was given extra opportunity. Prohm should have been fired before his last year. But with Covid that was nearly impossible due to uncertainty.

We didn't even have facilities when Dan McCarney got to Ames. They lifted weights at the rec and practiced on a field used for parking during games. We are on par with most of the teams in the league now.
