This public posturing/bluffing/flirtation with the Pac-12 by OU makes no sense from a standpoint of OU being everybody's friend and looking out for the good of the conference. Maybe OU does want a conference of equals, but it sure seems that they are more worried about their image than making a conference of equals. Take it to the boardroom and vote it in.

What Boren says in public doesn't matter. How he acts in bringing these matters before the Big 12 commisioners and how he votes when they are being acted on is what matters.

For Texas to stand down and accept equality in the big xii the threat of OU leaving must be real. Palpable even. I highly recommend you stop reading the press or tweets. No idea how to tell what is real and what is planted and what is just plain crap. Even so called credible sources may have their own agenda.

Again, this makes absolutely no sense. If the conference has the votes and support to implement equality, vote it in and move on. Why wouldn't they do this? Unless the required majority doesn't really support equality (i.e. OU)...

You just don't get it. Do you want Texas to stay in the conference????? The only way this happens is if Texas decides it is their own idea.
 
So how many AD's have come out and said "we are fully committed to the big 12". I think it is now KU, ISU, UT, and possibly BU?

I for one would prefer you put the twitter and media crap on the long stupid string. We are talking strategy here not bouncing off the most recent tweet or newspaper guess. There is a reason CW kept this seperate and this crap dilutes and diverts the discussion. Same reason I left the social group. It went twitter viral.

Now Missouri has some cards to play. Will they play them, or do they fold and run south?

No surprise by the SEC. Getting the Big 12 to officially fold is the easiest way to get themselves out of legal jeopardy.

This puts immense pressure on OU to take their finger off the PAC button, whether they were using it to extract concessions from UT or not, they don't have a bargaining position anymore. If any school will save the Big 12 now, it is up to the TIgers. ANd you can't trust a cat.
 
Do you think Texas is smart enough to realize that OU is telling them what to do to keep them?

This is a good question. Do we? If we all agreed to present conditions to them maybe tammy quits crying and OU looks like the kid who stood up to the bully. Maybe UT pollutes another conference while we add schools and get back to 12? Or maybe they figure out some way to save face?

Why does this matter? I don't really care if UT stays or goes. It would be nice if they stayed, but not if they are in oppostion to everyone else on this TV money issue. If OU is the friend of the Big 12 and genuinely committed to conference equality, they'll stay regardless of what UT does, and the conference will survive. If OU's membership is contingent on UT staying, then OU is ultimately just looking out for themselves, and just putting on a public facade.

It appears that for UT to remain in the Big 12, they will be forced to do something they really don't want to do, whether it is via boardroom votes or whether it is through this bluff you are suggesting. They aren't going to be somehow fooled by a clever media ploy into thinking that giving up $15+ million a year was their "good idea".

At this point it might be too late if they did. The ball is in UT's court. They either decide to keep the B12 together or they leave. If they don't concede to the rest of the B12 then OU and OSU is gone to P-12. KU to ACC, MU to SEC. Rest will merge with the remnants of the B East.

It would seems that keeping the Big 12 intact is more in the hands of OU/OSU/KU/MU than in the hands of UT. UT leaving the Big 12 doesn't force those other teams to leave...

Perhaps OU wanted to make sure UT did not get more than $40M a year ahead in the AD arms race. They used the voracious Larry Scott; tried to fake with Delaney, did the Slive dance; and codgled with Tam for their master plan how to ruffle Bevos's horns. In the end, the Big East blew up; WVU found out their true worth; they ticked off BYU; the OU plane is due maintenance work; WVU found their true worth; the wrod equality rang the halls in Dallas; Hawk fans went into overdrive; DipChip Brown sold subscriptions; NYT had some headlines; late nights were spent at ESPN/CBS/FOX/NBC; Clones learned their relative value in the real world; the MWC and CUSA talked and huddled (22); Boone spoiled the beans by stating what he knew; Missouri kept quiet this year after being a poster child last year; OSU became a me too/yes man; and CU shuddered with the thought UT might decend. That is all.

Except. Now that Pitt and Syracuse went bonkers, the cattle are out of the barn; now B12 may have to get back to 12 or 14; the Big East talks for a new contract 1 Nov are in jeopardy; Twest has been tested; UCONN has been paid back for breaking Cy's wingz by being ignored by ACC; Rutgers has been rejected by doing nothing; Baylor continues to threaten to sue some arrses while telling people to sit down; Bebbee still has a job of pressing flesh; KU does not know where to take its hoops; Bill Snyder laments; Mack Brown is reminiscient; Bobby Stoops is changing with the wind; and CU is still holding its breath. Now, that is finally all, except sounds like a marriage made in heaven.

The link to the T. Boone Pickens comments that Chris just put on his blog are awesome. I wish that guy was and ISU Billionaire. No one tells it like it is better. He sees the same result as what is being discussed here as the ideal result: Equality! Without, this conference dies.

Consistent with my last two posts above:
Pickens said his plan for A&M is to tell the University of Texas that the Aggies will stay in the Big 12, but only if UT folds its Longhorn Network into an equitable revenue distribution. However, that's a different cause than what irks A&M and OU about the Longhorn Network. The network's association with ESPN, which has pushed to air high school content, bothers the Sooners and Aggies, who believe it would give Texas a recruiting advantage. . . . .

Texas needs to make a move, and very soon. I'm actually starting to feel more positive about this whole situation.

Oh and so much for the SEC saying they wouldn't take another big 12 team. Knew that wasn't going to last.
