The classes after 6 tonite were canceled by the university. They are supposed to let us know by 6 am tommorrow if classes will be canceled for the day. I read somewhere classes have been canceled by the university only 3 times since 1858? Don't know if that's true. Can anyone shed some light on this?

I'm a senior now but during my freshmen year, they cancelled an afternoon of classes. If I remember correctly, it was an ice storm.

The University has rarely shut down. It has done this twice in recent years, both in '07 and '08 (...or maybe '06 and '07?).

Does not happen very often. Most likely you'll get an email from your professor saying the class is canceled, especially if they have students who do not live in Ames, or they themselves don't live in Ames.

Feb. 2007 one afternoon/evening. I've had family at ISU from 1996-2008 and each of us had 1 day for a total of 3 in just those years.

Yea back in spring '07 there was a bad ice storm that forced them to cancel classes on a Thursday afternoon. All classes after noon were cancelled...but IIRC we still had class Friday?

They didnt actually cancel that next day, but many profs emailed classes and cancelled them.

That's also what I remember.

They cancelled class a couple times in the 1996 and 1997. I think both times it was the start of the spring term. One time was for extremely cold temps -80 wind chill and the other time was a terrible ice storm ~ Cy ride was going sideways down Lincoln way.

Campus was closed the entire day of Feb 25, 2007. I spent the entire day walking on campus taking pictures. Just confirmed that with the data tags in my photos. I was a TA that semester and had to deal with rescheduling labs.

February 25, 2007 was a Sunday.

The afternoon that was cancelled was thursday.

I know we had classes cancelled one day in January of 2000. I know it was a Wednesday because my roommates and I went to the ISU Purchasing Warehouse sale that was only open to the public on Wednesday afternoons, and I got a computer monitor for $3.

Twice.

Winter 90-91 due to snow. And Summer of 93 due to the floods. That wasn't a complete closing, they had a few AM classes.

I think I remember them saying something back then too, about ISU only canceling school so many times since the earth was new. I think it's a bit of an urban legend.
