Anyone else wish they weren't born a Cyclone

So sick of spin and BS

I am tired of being marketed and sold. As ISU fans we are continually told to be patient, be loyal, better days are just around the corner etc. etc. Every year our teams are young or a key player transferred or fill in the blank. We write off season after season for one reason or another and what do you know, we have over 100 years of lost seasons.

I would love just to have simple competence in our two major sports. No more hype, no more selling 'hope', just simple straight forward competence and REAL results to get people enthusiastic instead of gimmicks.

A+ and Amen

We had competitive teams in the middle of the decade, but we fired those coaches.

Re: So sick of spin and BS

Mainly we've been told this the last 4 years. I wonder what happened 4 years ago that changed this. 5 years ago we were in the 2nd round of the NCAA tourney and were a couple minutes away from a Big 12 championship game.

I agree. No more billboards. No more coins. No more blow up toys. No more fog machines. No more spin. No more logo or color changes. Just play.

Fired coaches, drained the reserves doing so, and now those coaches are performing at a level lower than the fired coaches, and on top of that, a coach with 5 wins over two years gets a premier job - what does that say about our program - talk about giving a guy a pass. They probably think he did a great job given what he was up against.

Pollard - last guy standing?

Re: So sick of spin and BS

Pollards bag of tricks is getting empty, about the only thing he has left to get people in the stands is winning. With Chizik leaving it puts a lot of pressure on McD to win and think we got that vibe last night. McD has been sliding behind excuses and that maybe somehow the excuses were holding this team back. The rest of the season will really test McD.

As soon as I knew I was going to Iowa State, I was a Cyclone for life. That was 15+ years ago. I am glad to be a Cyclone, and am hopeful this will end up ok.

Same here. I have had lots of family go to ISU, but Mom was more of a Hawkeye fan then. Sister went to ISU, and then I did. Would not trade my college experience for anything.

I think better days are ahead. I will always be proud to be a Cyclone, and do my best to support the teams, students and the athletic department. When success comes, and it certainly will, the rewards will be all the sweeter.

When things get bleak, I always remember St. Crispin's day:

Learning to deal with adversity is one of the biggest challenges in life. I don't know of any other fanbase that is so spirited, hopeful and supportive with so little to show for their past efforts. To get the attendance at football and basketball the past couple years, despite not being any good, is amazing. It is hard to find a more loyal and better fanbase anywhere, in any sport. That is why I am such a proud Cyclone. It matters. You don't have to justify it, it isn't like KU or Nebraska. Anybody can cheer for a winner, that is easy.

Being a Cyclone takes character, I think that is why it means so much to me.

It is my opinion that people aren't born Cyclones. Even my kids who to my constant urging are becoming followers have yet to feel the fire that it takes to be a cyclone fan. Cyclone fans are forged in the flame of disappointment. We are taken to the brink of great things only to plunge down to be reheated bent and reshaped. From this comes an eternal optimism that even the knowlege that we may never achieve greatness means we cannot quit.
