Any thoughts on our kicker for next year

I know there was talk during the season last year that it would more than likely be the incoming freshman, Cole Netten (Ankeny, IA). I was just wondering if anyone has seen him kick and if he is as good as advertised? It would be great to not have to worry about kicking a PAT let alone a 35 yarder.

Also on that note, when are incoming freshmen able to join practice?

I saw him play in the UNI dome...he kicked 60 with ease in warmups...but then again, thats inside

2 walkons are battling for it...once Netten gets on campus he will likely get the job.

Always have to worry about kicks, no matter who it is. Quinn Sharp missed that 35-yarder for Okie State and he's an AA.

That just sucks, he was great but he'll always be remembered for missing a kick that would have sent them to the BCS Championship game. Thank God I wasn't a kicker.

Netten is big for a kicker (I think about 200 lbs) with a strong leg that consistently boots kick-offs 60 plus yards. I've seen him in about 8-10 games and have seen him drill 40 plus yarders with ease, and also miss a couple inside 40. He's had a great high school kicking coach and has the potential to be a very good 4 year kicker for us.

And on a tee.
If you watch his highlight video, you will see that he did not use a tee during his senior season.

I like the height he gets on his kicks.

I feel like Netten really gets that ball up in the air so quickly from watching that video. Hard to believe he still gets all that distance on it.

For someone who does not know...is it easier to kick it from a tee...and if so why?
Picture yourself driving a golf ball from a tee and then from the ground. What is easier?
Maybe not to that extreme, but you get the idea.

PS: I'm not a kicker.

PPS: I'm too slow at replying.

I'm not sure what you are looking at but that certainly looks like a black tee that the holder is putting under his hand before the snap. It's hard to see because it is in his shadow, but my eyes see a tee.
