Any thoughts on our kicker for next year

If you watch his highlight video, you will see that he did not use a tee during his senior season.

I like the height he gets on his kicks.

Placement tees are small and hard to see on video. On the longer kicks you can clearly see him bending over and picking up a tee after the play.

It's kind of a catch 22. I'm sure in high school since they are legal you'd want to use one to perform your best and get noticed. Kicking without one in college is an adjustment though. Most guys seem to make the transition OK and I hope he's one of them.

if we had mahoney back we'd be in contention for a national championship. no doubt about it.

Considering how many onsides he had last year and over the course of his career that kept ISU in games or won games for them...still doubtful considering ISU is picked to finish last in the Big XII by the prestigious Bleacher Report.

Someone had told me that Grinnell's kicker was thinking about walking on. I've heard that he has a monster leg too and was incredibly accurate throughout his career. I think that would be excellent. IMO, the more competition for a spot, the better.

Did Netten do the Jamie Kohl camp? How did he do there?

I know...I could google it. Instead, I'll let the power of CF work for me.

Mahoney reminded me of Yelk a lot. Huge leg, poor accuracy, but was a real asset on kickoffs in terms of pinning teams back. Plus, Mahoney's onside kicks were almost always recovered. I can think of 3 off the top of my head, and the only miss I can think of was '09 Iowa.

He wasn't what we were hoping he could be on field goals, and lord knows I've been hard on him before, but IMO, nailing the onside against OK State was worth 4 years of kicking schollies.

Good post. :applause:

It's crazy thinking of all those onside's we got back. And not to mention the 'offsides' one. :realmad:

It got to a point last year, when we lined up for an onside, I expected to get it back. Rather than the 10% odds.
