anti-hicks

Those statistics are amazing. Stevie Hicks means a lot to our football program, and the stats back it up. In the 5 games we lost, Stevie's rushing total was 4,0,0,14, and -1 yards rushing. In our 3 biggest wins (Iowa, KSU, and A&M) he rushed for 389 yards or 130 a game. Coincidentally, we beat those 3 teams 110-34. Still don't think he is important to our team?

Style points will only get you so far. I wish he hit the hole quicker, had better breakaway speed, blah, blah, blah. Bottom line is when he is healthy, he can dominate games and open up our entire offense. That translates to wins. In the last 2 years, when he rushes for 100 yards+, we are 7-1.

I hope he can remain healthy this year, and have a great season. If he does, our team will enjoy success as well.

Thanks MNClone! Great stats.

Actually - it would be awesome if you created a separate thread about those, perhaps titled "Stevie Hicks nay-sayers - read this!"

Stats don't lie...

While the observations of Stevie's play have some merit at times, ISU wins when Hicks is healthy and playing. Those are the facts, so I'm happy the coaches play him when he's healthy. It will be a bonus to have a couple of other good backs in there to add some speed and spice to the offensive mix. Let's hope all three can be healthy all season.

I look for stevie to rack up the yards against our non-conference slate. Make 'em fear the run a little and torch with the deep pass during conference games.

Imagine if last year none of the running backs had fumbled the ball. Ball security is number one in my book. Whats an extra 20, 30,..50 yards a game if we have an extra fumble to get there. Especially if that fumble is in the endzone. Thats assuming another running back can gain more yards than stevie which I haven't seen.

Jason Harris - I wouldn't play him much unless I was sure he could do a better job with the ball. I f he can hold on to the ball I think he might split some time with stevie.

Jason Scales - I wonder sometimes if he will ever recover from his knee injuries. It doesn't sound good to me what I have heard..or not heard...from the coaches. Anyone know anything about him?

Who else has potential for some playing time this year?

Who is looking to play next year or the year after?

he wasnt a 1000 yard rusher until the bowl game hardly can count that imo. stevie is a blocking back he gives meyer protection and everyonce in a while he'll break off if good run(even a blind squrill finds a nut sometimes) Hes got potential ill give him that if he runs low he'll knock people over hes just got to stop dancing and start playing football

This had alot to do with the pass rush that Stevie was very good at defending. Every game he was out Meyer was huried multiple times. With the recievers we have, Stevie is very crucial to buying Meyer valuable time. He not the best rusher I have seen, but did go for over 1000 in 2004, and to me is not so bad! Lets just hope he is ridid of his injury.

(combines Big Ten and Big 12) projected a 1200 rushing season for Stevie. I just wish they would do more swing passes to him if he is one on one on the outside. That way they cannot totally plug the middle against him.

I suggest the ISU offense needs to get much more unpredictable to get better. Why run on first down so much?

With a new defense, we should be less conservative on offense.

I agree. Our line isn't exactly earth movers and Stevie when not dealing with naging injuries, can be a workhorse that takes time off the clock and sustains drives even if not piling up huge yards. For example, his Independence Bowl performance a few years ago, Nebraska, K-St games that same year. He needs about 3 quarters to get rolling.

Our biggest problem on rushing is we are SO PREDICTABLE. That was why Nebraska was a good rushing team. You did not know which rushing play they were going to run. WEe need to be more INNOVATIVE in rushing.
