Another recruiting MISS

You couldn't be any more wrong and I'm assuming you don't even got to other schools boards. If that was even remotely close to a "substantial" reason why we are missing on recruits, then recruits would be pretty much going to schools who did not have a message board. This stuff happens EVERYWHERE, and the "negative" comments on this site do not even come close to what you read on other sites. The KU board the week after they lost to UNI was way worse than just about anything I have ever read on here. North Carolinas board was much worse than CF, and they brought in the #1 recruiting class...

Yes but those are schools that are rich in tradition and history. ISU does not have that and it is hard enough to pull guys and get them to come to Ames.

Comparing meltdowns on an ISU board with KU or NC is not the same thing. A recruit will go to NC or KU regardless. The same does not hold for ISU.

Truth

If coaches make a million dollars, expect comments of all types. That is life.

Didn't Mark Twain once say loyalty to your country always, loyalty to your government when it deserves it. The same can be said of University and athletics. If you can convince me that McD would still be here, if he were a BVD hire, maybe I'll stop calling for his firing.

The odds of his success (aka post season) is between 0 and 5%. Those are the same odds of his returning the following year. Would you sign to play for an unknown coach when you have stable programs offering you?

The recruiting issue has nothing to do with these boards. You people give too much credit to yourselves. I don't think a recruit cares what people here think. They want to play where they like the coach, can get playing time, and have a chance to win.

ya but who cares about Otto Oseniekalitis? :jimlad:

We are headed in the Right direction so who cares about this guy...Minnesota....Florida?????????..bunch of losers they are...

We are gonna win 25 games next year because we are headed in the right direction...no player turmoil...2 NBA players...Great coaching...assistants are here...i'm on the GMAC train4 life :jimlad:

Yes - but, you have to know....
Recruits know that no matter what, KU and North Carolina will always have the history and prestige... ISU on the other hand, does not have the luxury, when we are going up against 5 school similiar to us, and our board is spewing hate, i know, if I was their parent, i'd be hestitant to have my child go to such a hate filled area (all things being equal) --- cause no matter what, we can't rely on our past prestige, like a KU and North Carolina can, we are 'just' trying to complete with other 'middle of the pack' schools.. does any one see the difference??

If not for these boards, a recruit would here from the people they meet and players they meet, not a small, but vocal group of negative posters...

btw - it is EASY to spew hate and negativity on a message board..
much harder to have a rational debate.

I agree. My point still remains...what is transcribed on Cyclone Fanatic has little to no effect on a recruits decision.

From what I have been hearing, when potential recruits are asking people they respect in the industry what they think about ISU, those people are telling recruits to look elsewhere.

You don't think the 22 players leaving early has anything to do about it?

Well, you quoted my post I'd assumed you read it. Yes, obviously there are numerous reasons we are missing on recruits. I'm not a gmac flag waver here. But to just pretend that the constant daily, nearly hourly, assault on our head coach by the largest Cyclone website by far does not matter is asinine.

We live in a world where if it makes you feel better...just fire away! Damn the consequences. You know darn well we have a ton of "fans" on this site cheering for a complete destruction of the program so they can all feel vindicated. "Hey, I was right! Greg's a loser!!"

But my all-time favorite is the "other websites are worse than ours" approach. Right, that's like saying my coworkers are all acting like ***** so I will too!. How stupid. I don't care what KU's website is saying. Frankly, the fact that KU and UNC was upset at anything should just go to show if you're THAT upset about something...put the keyboard down! All you do is make yourself look foolish.

Or maybe a recruit would look at win-loss records, post season appearances, number of transfers, NBA success of recent participants in the program (if that recruit happens to be one with that kind of talent).

Do you seriously believe that a recuit is going to place more stock in some message board posts than all of the objective information available?

Do you really, really believe that?

Are you close to the program, or are u hearing this third-hand?
I'm asking honestly, sad, if true.... please elaborate.

So let's assume there is an instate recruit we are competing with Iowa & UNI for. You don't think the amount of venom on this board that gets carried over to the local sports radio would have any influence on who that young man ended up signing with?

I never said that. The person who brought this up said this website has a "substantial" impact on a recruits decision. I just don't think it would "substantially" play into that recruits decision. I think GMac's failure to get wins and keep players is about 90% of the reason we are not landing the recruits we lose.

Not at all. Matt Perault(sp?) brought it up one day on his radio program saying he had heard from many people who said that, and it has been brought up a few times on here as well.

Dude 22 players leaving early speaks volumes. Are these guys playing for Cyclone Fanatic or Greg McDermott?

I just saw on rivals that forward Oto Osenieks was high interest in Minnesota and low interest in all the other schools that were recruiting him including Iowa State. One of our top 5 targets. Imagine that, another miss!

The average recruit has what... 5 or more schools on their list?

Therefore the average school hits on at best 20% or their recruits.

You are bipolar.

What is the solution? A draconian approach to cleaning up the negativity? Shutting down the site? If it's truly in the best interest of the program shouldn't they and we want the site shut down? Shouldn't Chris and the owners since they are fans of the program?
