Another Female Teacher 'Incident'

What you guys are missing is that the teacher is in a position of power (male or female). They are taking advantage of a trusted position and using it to exert even more power. Rarely are these relationships about love or sex but about one party exerting influence over the other. So we can joke and say the kids aren't victims but in all likelihood they will have trust issues and problems with authority further down the road.

While that is certainly possible, and why it makes sense to fire the teacher, that seems like a massive blanket statement to say that they all are just using their power to get sex.

The laws are just wrong. This is the easiest instance to defend because it is more socially acceptable. Every situation is different and should be treated by the maturity and judgement of the "victims". It is also crazy that kids can't legally do anything until magically crossing some 6,579 days of living.

I actually agree with Argent here that 18 is arbitrary.

Our frontal lobes often are still filling in up until 25 and sometimes later. So nobody should have sex with anybody until they're at least 25.

Nobody is denying the physiology. But, think about what a removal of age of consent laws would open the door for. Argent thinks it should be a case by case basis. Think about going to court to litigate whether or not a particular kid was mature enough to have sex. Think of what a mess that would be.

I agree that there needs to be age of consent as a default law but can we look at situations like these or when the sexes are reversed and be able to say, "you know, probably not a lot of use of power going on here"?

Like I said, something is wrong with someone who looks like that and needs to tap into the Algebra II class for some action. That doesn't mean it was some gross misuse of power. She should be fired, but I don't think criminally charged unless there is proof that she was leveraging the relationship in some way.

Seems like a worthy risk, IMO.

I just can't ignore that she was allegedly getting boned by three kids. This isn't like a one-off incident or something... This was repeatedly done with three students.

In what way did she ever think this would work out fine, or was a good idea? It's hard enough to get one kid to keep a secret like this...

Anyone taking bets on the sentence length yet?

Sure, but whether there's actually an abuse of power or not, I guess I don't have a problem with a law saying "Teachers shouldn't be having sex with students." Sure, there might be some scenarios where it's not a big deal, but in general, it's not going to be appropriate.

Hopefully, the kids in this particular story have no long term effects, other than sore hands from all of the high fives they're receiving. That would be great.

It's funny to me that so many of you are willing to give her a pass because she is attractive and would not have an issue getting someone her age. But, if she were less attractive or it were a male you seem more incline to believe that power of authority could have been used. Fundamentally this is an abuse of power regardless of looks.

You may want to read the full extended version before agreeing with Argent on this subject.

Or, it could be we'd have the same opinion on those cases too.

Lol, I think you missed my first post. Besides, if I had had teachers like that I might not be as surly and obstinate as i am. Don't know if that would be for the better or worse, perhaps in another dimension

This happened at my high school a few years back.

Female teacher, male student.

Male student was overheard bragging to his friends and a student turned him in.

The female was "getting around" with guys her age too. I know because a couple were my friends.
They were probably related knowing your parts of Iowa

Oh no, this would make it so hard to be a lawyer or prosecutor and delay the system. The horror. If you are going to bring criminal charges for what we think this women has done and ruin her life for it then it should be hard. Most juries would not have a problem convicting real cases of abuse.

Is society going to be any better off with her serving time in jail and forever being on the sexual predator list? Fired from her job would be one thing, easily handled by the employment contract, as she probably shouldn't be working in education.

Not me. Fats, Uglies and Males need lovin too.

One thing I never understood is how is it and abuse of power if the teacher never taught the kid(s) (for example they aren't in any of her classes)?
