Why?
In the big picture this isn't a big game for Iowa. They'll win 2-3 games this year I'm sure. The fans that are done with Ferentz aren't jumping back on board if they beat Rocky LombardiSimple for MSU its a new coaching staff, they want to get off on a good foot, if they lose to EIU, after their win over their instate rival will not carry as much weight after they have lost to Rutgers and then to EIU.
For EIU, their season is already a train wreck, this is an opportunity to start turning it around, and stop the bleeding, its either that or go into the tank.
So its a critical game for both teams.
FIFY with a BIG mentalityMeaningless scrimmageCritical gamefor both teams.
Reading message boards prove nothing, its too small of a sample size of a fan base. If the EIU fan base has any say, Freerents will be at EIU until he is ready to leave. For what I have read and heard, he is very much liked by the large donor group that support their atheletic programs. Plus those donations to the childrens hospital have bought loyalty from the average fan, a hell of a lot more than if he had given it to the government in taxes. In the big picture this isn't a big game for Iowa. That's what happens when you're a basketball school like Duke, UNC, Kentucky, Iowa, etc... Good football years are gravy, but it's a dying sport and March Madness is way more fun than bowl season.
Ferentz will never get fired. The outcome of the game Saturday means very little in the big pictureReading message boards prove nothing, its too small of a sample size of a fan base. No new president of any university is going to want to go to war with a popular football coach when he is new on the job. Its a political position and it would not be worth to get off on the wrong foot with the fan base and people that give to the university.

Kirk has too big of ego to step down without getting paidHe'll be allowed to retire. No chance he coaches at Iowa after next season.

I don't think Barta has the balls to fire him. KF has been with that program as an assistant or head coach forever. I think their fans get a tiny woody knowing they've only had 2 coaches since 1978/79 How would you like to be the AD that fires him and has to do a search for a new coach...don't eff it up. You've only needed 2 in the last 40 years. No pressure.Kirk will have to retire on his own (and ignore his son’s pleas). Not a great time to payout $25 million + to fire a guy.
Bit weird

New president oftentimes means new AD.
New AD oftentimes means new head coach.
Same deal in any organization -- you want "your guys," not the ones you inherited. New NFL GM oftentimes means a new head coach and staff and a new staff oftentimes means a new starting quarterback.
I think you are generally right about all of the above, but it would not surprise me if there are some elements of the above at play, too.
Don’t you judge the hawks. Perfectly normal to cope like that.Odd move to bash the coach who just beat you
