Ames tribune

While I agree with him...EVERY SINGLE FAN BASE IN AMERICA WOULD DO/HAS DONE THE SAME THING!!!

Just read this. I agree with half of what he is saying...for the most part he wants Cyclone fans to be "above all that," and he is on to something as our fanbase grows and we are in a better position to shape how our fanbase is perceived.

But on the other hand, he is really putting the microscope on an issue that is nowhere near the problem he thinks it is. Imagine if Pat Forde would have put Austin as the worst Big 12 town...I'd imagine Pat Forde would be out of a job, moving to Alaska under a new name and a new identity. The problem is that Iowa State gets ragged on all the time from stupid national writers like Forde for no good reason, on puff pieces like that which shape the national mindset coming off a long summer craving college football and reading just about ANYTHING. That is more damaging to our reputation in my opinion. I say, stand up for yourself, but in a respectful manner...threatening Forde through twitter...that's not cool. Ubben deserved the jokes because he COVERED the Big 12...it was his job!

I understand that every single fan base has their issues, but I maintain Cyclone Nation should try to hold ourselves to higher standards.

He's not even half right. It's the same couple hundred people who ***** about these media things with Ubben, Forde, Palm, Gottlieb, etc. The Kansas thing was a unique situation and a few stupid fans threw stuff. A few hundred out of 10's of thousands is miniscule, and is the same for any fan base anywhere.

He has a point in some of it, but nowhere near all of it.

If he wants to tell me that I should consider the Kansas game one where the better team won that day, he can talk all day long until he loses his voice forever. I will not be convinced that was anything other than a robbery.
Not a conspiracy. Simply a robbery from one official's incompetence backed up by the rest of his crew refusing to correct the failure.

He's not wrong, just pointing out the radical faction of the Cyclone Nation that could potentially alter the outsider's view of the Iowa State fan-base in a negative fashion.

Before he sends anything to the editor, Bobby needs to ask himself if he is a journalist, or if he is a novelist.

The national sports media is almost entirely made up of novelists posing as journalists...like Forde. There is nothing wrong with uncovering their veil.

What is wrong with this guy? The only thing he is right about is the throwing stuff/going at Self after the Kansas game. But any rational Iowa State fan would have booed after that game....for multiple reasons. And any fan base would have been justified in booing if it happened to them. In fact, I would wonder what was wrong with someone if they weren't upset after a game like that.

And while it certainly is stupid to actually get mad at Ubben and Forde, it is equally stupid for a national columnist to say that any town is the worst in a conference. Further, the only thing stupider than either of these is for an outside party to get upset when a few residents of that town try to defend it. What a joke.

La Gesse's Tribune readers, for the most part, had no idea what he's talking about. This was the first they'd heard of it. My parents subscribe to the Trib, and had to ask me who the heck Pat Forde is.

This is why I hate the "media". They have to produce something to earn their paycheck, even when it means publishing lazy blather. I suppose he's pining for civility, which is valid, but he doesn't have to cast the actions of a few onto the backs of the many.

The pat forde thing isnt even about ISU it is more reflective of the pride and collective chip on our shoulders that all Iowans have By being misunderstood by the coastal snobs. It is what the Iowa Nice Guy thing was all about. It is no different than how ****** everyone was at Stephen Bloom. We like Iowa and dont like people trashing it. Look at how CW felt when people on here were trashing Creston. Ubben think is dumb but booing at kansas wasnt, and the self guy....uh one guy makes a fanbase. Really? This was crap. I don't like the obsession with ubben and we should be respectful but this was a major over reach.

I didn't even read past the first paragraph. Obviously this guy isn't tired of Iowa State and Ames being the national punching bag, whether it be by refs that give the "superior" team the "benefit of the doubt" (for lack of better terminology), conference and NCAA officials that couldn't care less about what is in the interest of Iowa State as they're too busy looking out for the interests of the "bigger" programs, and national sports columnists that write disparaging things about Iowa State and Ames with no regard to accuracy, such as taking time to do any research on what they're writing about or their refusal to even step foot in Ames.

La Gesse offers no solutions to what is an undeserved national PR problem in regards to disrespect of Iowa State that extends way beyond performance on the field or court and instead criticizes the fan base that is sick of the disrespect. We understand that winning fixes a lot of ills - but we're tired of blown basketball and football calls because refs don't have guts to stand up to the conference powers, we're tired of conference officials that would apologize to another school in conference because other refs dared get a call right, we're tired of the NCAA holding Iowa State to a standard they would never hold schools to that are in the SEC or Big 10 (if Iowa State had committed the penalties that Ohio State or Auburn had committed, our penalties would be much more severe), and we're tired of lazy journalism that has no regard for anything that has to do with Iowa State and instead will just pull stuff out of their *** because we're not worth the effort.

Basically, after that article, I see La Gesse as no better than any of those other guys so he can go screw himself too.

Ames always seemed like a pretty nice town to me. Clean, a few interesting places for dining and drinking, etc. I am sure it has nothing on Austin Texas in terms of culture, but it also probably has a lot less crime. It would be interesting to know if Forde has even ever been to Ames, probably not.... I know a lot of these guys just write this crap to create web traffic, but they are like the NCAA, they don't want to go after the big money schools. Ames and ISU have always been a nice easy target to make fun of. Glad some people are fighting back, just some get a little carried away...

Uh not liking Forde's comment is radical? Because people asked for an explanation. Who said anyone did anything more. Booing after a badly reffed game? Of course, throwing stuff at players, a racist disgusting tweet, and the Self incident are all something we need to police amongst our fan base but that all happened after one emotional game and has no relevance to this instancem

But he equated that behavior to us getting pissy for Forde taking an unexplained potshot at Ames. A town ranked as one of the smartest, best places to live and even one of the best college towns in the country. If he said we had bad restraunts, notuch to.do etc. I wouldn't have cared, but he said it was the worst town. A town is much more than restraunts and tourist stops. It was disrespectful and if anyone deserved the scorne of Lagesse it was Pat Forde. I am disappointed in Bobby for not standing up for the town and people he writes for.

I read that and wondered what is he trying to say? Scold us because a few fans reacted poorly which was unfortunate but come on that is all history and we've got a great season ahead. I cancelled the register a few months ago and now the Tribune? I think Bobby's been reading the register too much.
