I'm curious to see examples of idiotic comments made by people responding to Forde & Ubben. Do you have examples handy or is anyone who takes umbrage with Forde simply whining?

Just curious what comments are off limits... Any/all complaints? Requests for criteria? Criticism of anyone who is paid to publish their opinion?

Stuff that's done with a sense of humor (see WRNL's efforts with Ubben) or getting a quick vent about something out on CF, I don't have any problem with. But, if you are engaging someone you truly believe to be a troll, or are personally emailing/Twittering/angry commenting the author of an article under the belief that this will actually change their opinion, you are being an idiot.

I agree but this is a tiny group of people and LeGesse has tried to paint an entire fanbase with this brush.*

You've got it wrong. The irony is all the people up in arms about being reminded to stop freaking out about every imagined insult. Bobby raised a very good point. The way a lot of fans act makes me embarrassed to be an ISU fan sometimes. He didn't tell anybody to "sit down and take abuse without saying anything" or anything like that. He just reminded people that they don't have to go DEFCON 1 for every single thing.

But thats the point. We didnt. Some folks commented on his article, many from other fanbases and he got tome tweets. It didnt generate that much buzz, most fans.didnt even know about it. Again you are equating a handful of messageboard posters to make a generalization about an entire fanbase.

Fair enough. I dont like most of the percieved slights that go on this board like rating agency conspiracies, refs out to get us to keep kansas happy etc. I just thought Pat Forde was a jerk and a bully taking a shot at us tbut would never give him the satisfaction of a response. I think the best way to react is to ignore it and not read his stuff. But who cares if people vent about it here, and I just fealt that is.what Bobby was basing his article on, plus.it fealt like he was justifying. I actually didnt get upset about Fordes shot untul Bobhy wrote that and I realuze I am more upset about.Bobby takung a shot at the fan base then Forde.

I agree with everything he said. The “woe is me” attitude is getting ridiculous. Forde wasn’t completely unjustified in saying Ames in the worst Big 12 town. Sure, we all have our own emotional attachment to Ames, but looking at it objectively it is a very rural town with limited things to do. Beyond that, it is one person’s opinion—who cares?

Another example that comes to mind is the complaining about Lazard’s ranking. The conspiracy theory that he was dropped because of his commitment is ridiculous. Look at the rankings, there is a Top 5 guy right now who is committed to UVA, who had a losing record last year. There are a ton of rational reasons why this happened, but lets go with the "recruiting services are out to get Iowa State" theory, because that seems most plausible.

To me, many Iowa State fan’s have the athletic version of depression. We have so many great things going for us right now (CPR, Fred, we are still in the Big 12, SEZ talks, etc.), why dwell on the few negatives?

I agree with all of this. And some of the sentament behind bobbys article but hate that he wrote it. He used kansas and then elevated the forde article doing exactly what he was complaining about. Both were crappy examples of the woe is me fan segment. It is also just a minority of fans that have thos attitude.

Journalists all defend each other to the hilt. Ubben never going to Ames is a joke, and Forde calling Ames the worst town without ever being there is terrible journalism. Tey deserve some criticism.

The joking around with Ubben I thought was tongue in cheek. I mean, who respects that guys awful anlaysis anyway? Forde's article seemed to be a fluff piece not well thought out. Just internet fodder like buzzfeed. If you are truly upset because of these then yes, relax.

I laugh somewhat at the irony of writing an article that slights Cyclone Fans about being too slighted. Bobby's email inbox will be full of defensive emails for the next 6 months.

He's right about the Kansas game. It's not like Self officiated the game. The REFs should have been grabbed by their collars.

But the rest is 100% bull crap. Excuse us for having a backbone. Some idiot talks smack about a place he's never been that is near and dear to our hearts? It's okay, we should let it slide.. A local newspaper does a 6 page spread on our rival's loss, and a paragraph on our win? It's okay, we should let it slide.. Some national broadcaster refers to us as the Hawkeyes? It's okay, we should let it slide.

Screw that. It's years of acting like that CAUSING the rest of the world to treat us like that. :realmad:
