BOULDER IS GARBAGE!! A bunch of trust-fund toting, fresca drinking, granola eating, greeny do-gooding, wannabe hippies who are so backwards and rude it's ridiculous. I've been there for an ISU game and had a bottle thrown at us from 40 feet away. Most normal, tax paying people in Colorado hate Boulder too because it gives the rest of the sane, nice people in Colorado a bad name. If you like it, good for you, but you can have your "rich, too good for anyone, but peace on earth and don't kill that fly hippies".

Boulder is a great, great place. Don't confuse the CU fans with Boulder residents. CU students and fans are who give Boulder a bad rep.

There really is a lot to do in Boulder.

Imo, the biggest thing that hurts Ames is that it's "dowtown" and its "campustown" are not one and the same, like Iowa City. While I dislike many things about Iowa City, from the campus, to the people who go to school there from Chicago, to the general aesthetics of the downtown area, I think from an organizational standpoint, it makes sense to have one, larger, hopping area in a college town, as opposed to a pretty fun "campustown" that is relatively small, and a downtown 3 miles away, which is for the most part, unfriendly or inconvenient to the majority of the student population. Of course this is all because Ames was platted 2 miles away from Campus, to be a service town, Campustown developed separately to more closely serve the university...

This is a great point. Most schools the size of ISU have a much larger campustown/entertainment district than what we have in Ames. Some of that may have to do with the size of Ames itself, but the fact that downtown and campustown are completely seperate is also a factor in this.

No they wouldn't. I'm talking ONE BLOCK, from Lincoln Way to the clock tower. The only thing that would be removed is the parallel parking along the street. And if that was done, they could widen the sidewalks (making the street service only) and have more of a sidewalk cafe feel...outdoor service for some of the bars and restaurants.

I've been saying this for years. It would add more of a pedestrian feel to campustown and probably help the area a ton, at the expense of maybe 20 parking spots.

A "pedestrian feel" is in fact the problem there. Ames has been talking about the necessity of a parking ramp in Campustown for years. Availability of parking would expand the commercial area and drive businesses to locate there. Right now, stores depend on foot traffic for customers. Lack of parking is what keeps Campustown so small and compact.
The rest of Ames avoids the area because...there's no place to park.
