Amazon Echo - New Product

So did I. I looked to see what the customer reviews were saying on Amazon but it doesn't look like they have any.

It says it won't get mailed until June!

We have one... kinda Meh. Neat idea 3 years ago. I still have trouble finding the value in it.
 
I ordered one today for grins and giggles :-)

I figure it'll be nice for music and for the kids to dink around with (I joined prime today as a trial to get reduced price)

I got mine in early December and I loved it the first two days, it was fun to say Alexa this and Alexa that. The speaker sound quality was good and since I have all of my music on Amazon it was easy to listen to whatever I wanted to. Unfortunately after a few days the fun aspect wore off and it just sat under my TV collecting dust. It was so much easier to use my iPhone, plus my phone is always with me, so in order to please the person who is related by marriage I sent it back. I can honestly say I don't miss it
 
Still have mine and we still use it quite a lot. I'm hoping for some updates in the future to do things like throw music, videos, whatever to my FireTV Stick among others.

Someone asked about sports scores: I haven't had any luck with that. But, like I said, this is pretty much a beta so hopefully they add more functionality as the user base grows.

They've recently added sports scores and Pandora support. Really glad I got it.
 
WeMo and Philips Hue products now work with Amazon Echo.
You can now use Echo to switch on the lamp before getting out of bed, turn on the fan or heater while reading in your favorite chair, or dim the lights from the couch to watch a movie—all without lifting a finger...or even raising your voice.
To get started, connect your WeMo and Hue devices to your home Wi-Fi and name them in their respective app. Then say, "Alexa, discover my appliances." After Echo's confirmation, you can control your devices by voice.
Things to try:

  • "Alexa, turn on the hallway light"
  • "Alexa, turn on the coffee maker"
  • "Alexa, dim the living room lights to 20%"
  • "Alexa, turn on the electric blanket"
  • "Alexa, turn on the outdoor decorations"

Just bought one of these for my wife. It's mostly used as a music speaker and a kitchen timer. It has a long way to go on it's search abilities. OK Google (Google Now) works a lot better.
 
I got one over Christmas. We mostly use it for news and weather updates and Pandora. It's nice to link into iHeartRadio and TuneIn radio. The kids like to ask it for jokes. The sound is pretty good, especially compared to our old kitchen radio.

I got in on when via invite and got it for $100 so I got primarily as a speaker (which it is great for, really fills the room or whole level of the house) and I too like it for iHeartradio (local stations as well as artist stations)....like over xmas easy to just say, "Alexa, play iheartradio christmas" and fill the house with back ground music. We too use it a lot for a "kid timer". I don't use it tons for the "info on demand" type of stuff, more music and such. When I got for $100, totally worth it...I don't know if I'd buy one for $200 based on my uses.

Same here. I do ask it for sport scores/schedules and it does pretty well with that.

I have been flat out impressed by how well OK Google works on my phone. Getting directions and sending texts using the voice recognition while driving has been excellent. It does extremely well at understanding context in my experience as well. For example, I can say "I need directions to..." or "Where is..." or "How do I get to..." or "I want to go to..." and it will give me directions. Or "Send a text to..." or "Send a message to..." and it sends the text I speak into the phone. I'm not limited to a single, explicit phrase to execute a single action.
