Amazon Echo - New Product

$99 with amazon prime...if the actual music sound was decent, could be a fun gadget.

That is by invitation only and for a limited time.

I might consider it for that price, but my wife thinks it is too pricey even at $99. I rarely buy gadgets the first time around. I almost always wait until the price points come down and the bugs are out.

I'm like that as well, but $99 is a great price. Even a decent speaker dock for your iPod/Phone music runs you about $60-70. For an additional $30 you'll get so much more.

Smart choice... I almost sprung for the Amazon Fire phone, and boy what a flop that was. Better hope this does well or Amazon is going to looking at a very tough 2014.

Briefly read the article. What's the draw to this compared to Siri if you have an iPhone?

I'm curious how much of what is said without addressing the device by name is kept/transmitted to Amazon. In 1984, Big Brother was forced into homes. Now we invite him in.

Amazon is trying to market it as being more convenient than Siri and other similar products. Since it is always on you can be extra lazy without having to reach into your pocket! I would be curious to see if the product works as well as it did in the video.

I prefer this video of it.

If I had Siri plugged into a dock...that takes care of the sound part. What else does it do that Siri can't?

Just a few things off the top of my head. I know that with Ios8, Siri can do more things but not sure since I never use it on my Ipad.

The average person would need to buy a dock.
What happens when you ask Siri to give you the news?
What happens when someone else in the family wants to use Siri but you're gone?
Does the Iphone wake up for voice commands?

To be honest, if you already have a docking station and an Iphone then you probably don't need it. I look at it as a cheap ($100) bluetooth speaker that can also do other things. I have a bunch of friends who have paid $200+ for bluetooth speakers that are just bluetooth speakers. The one big downside I see for some people is no battery.

Did anyone get one of these? I just got an invitation to buy it ($99 with Prime) and I'm considering pulling the trigger but I'm wondering how well it actually works and if the sound is decent.

Apparently you all need to rewatch I, Robot. This is the beginning of the end. Head for the hills!

Thanks for the bump...I'm in the same camp as you. I like gadgets and think my kids would get a kick (and it'd be a decent bluetooth speaker). I requested an invite and haven't heard...but I've seen them on ebay, so they are out there.

I'm thinking about biting as well if people have heard good things. $99 isn't bad. I'm wondering where the music playlist would come from. If I could sink it to Spotify, I could see this being awesome.
