All time favorite band.

Actually, to me, specific albums can be more important than the band.

For example, I wouldn't necessarily list Pink Floyd as one of my top 5 favorite bands, but "Wish You Were Here" would be in my top 5 favorite albums.

Same thing with Sabbath's "Master of Reality."
I agree totally that specific albums can be more important than the band. Your Pink Floyd example is justified as Pink Floyd put out some of the best albums ever, but also released some clunkers. Ditto for Black Sabbath and Master of Reality. Exile on Main Street by the Rolling Stones would make my top 5 list but there are quite a number of Rolling Stones albums and songs that I could do without.

That's a pretty brutal line-up ya got there. I used to listen to some Danzig, Sepultura and Fear Factory back in the day, not so much Godsmack though. I had to look up Robbie Merrill to even know who he was. Don't get into the heavy stuff much anymore...

Wouldn't say he's my all time favorite but he is way up there; Jason Mraz. Only mentioning him cuz I just bought his Live On Earth Album and it is simply fantastic. Great way to cheer you up. He is amazing.

Iron Maiden - Excited to see them at an outdoor venue in July. My seventeen year old son will be going with our group. I successfully passed on the Iron Torch.

I have to go with Led Zep. The first band IMO to turn blues songs into hard driving rock. Black Dog is the epitomy of hard rocking blues (followed closely by AC/DC's Whole Lotta Rosie). I really like ACDC too. When they first hit the scene, I thought they had a lot of LZ influence, but grew into their music.

However, if I'm listening to blues, give me RL Burnside!

O.A.R. is my clear cut number one. No competition there. Dave would probably be number two.

Of course, none of these bands compare to the King, George Strait.

Did you go to the show at Stephens in 2005? Between the Summer of 03 and Spring of 06 I saw O.A.R 9 times, including two nights opening for DMB out in Alpine Valley. Great times, but I burned myself out on the band. I hated their last album, but theyll always have a special place in my heart.

My all time favorite bands, would have to be in order.

1a. Rolling Stones: so timeless, classic, and influential. In the late 60s and early 70s they put out some of the best albums ever made. Love their bluesy, gritty, somewhat country influenced sound. The soundtrack to a lot of my collegiate career.

1b. Drive-By Truckers: I mention these guys in about every music thread on this board, but they are so ******* good. Switching from haunting, lonesome old school country tunes to face melting guitar solos, balls out old school Southern rock, and some of the most thought provoking, yet straightforward lyrics being written today, almost everyone of their songs sounds like something Ive witnessed or experienced.

2. Pearl Jam: Eddie Vedder is such a powerful singer and lyricist, and the band (especially Mike McCready) can just soar sometimes. They have covered so many bases in their career and have refused to be pigeon-holed, and have continued making powerful music for almost 20 years.

HMs: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, RHCP, The Who, Jack White and anything he touches, The Band

Supergroup: Im only going to use people who are alive today.

Lead Vocals: Eddie Vedder
Guitar\Vocals: Jack White
Guitar 2\Vocals: Mike Cooley (Drive-By Truckers)
Bass: Flea
Drums: Dave Grohl

Tool. Actually, I didn't start getting into them until I started getting into A Perfect Circle. Before that I was more into Korn, Soundgarden, Foo Fighters, Green Day, and Offspring (well, at least Smash was pretty good).

I'm also into Christian, my favorites being Red, Skillet, and Flyleaf, all of which will be heard on any mainstream rock station.

The Police. I used to put on my headphones and try to drum along with Stewart Copeland.

Saw them in CR on the Ghost in the Machine tour around '82. A couple years later I missed them when they came to Cedar Falls on the Synchronicity tour and kicked myself for a couple decades since they broke up shortly thereafter. In '08 my wife and I saw them in Chicago on their reunion tour and I will cherish that memory for a long time.

Chris - you should put "Favorite band" under each person's avatar like NFL, MLB, etc. so that it puts threads like this to rest!
