Aljaz Kunc Appreciation Thread

He's had not been real assertive offensively in the past. I think defenses consider him an after thought in scheming. He has been getting good looks the last 2 games bc defenses have been geared towards stopping Shoon, Gabe, TL, Holmes and Grill. Now that he has shown he can be more than spot 3 shooter I think this will open up more things for the others. Tough for defenses to try to shut down everyone.

I think we would have won some of the close games we lost if he hadn’t gotten hurt and would at least be tied for first. Let’s see how we do on the road with him going forward.

Possibly, though along with the fresh legs, I think we found some things out about some of our other guys too, and are a deeper team for it. Certainly wouldn't have wished for that, but there are some positives in how we were able to respond without him.

Initially, I didn't think the eye poke was flagrant, but when they showed it in slo-mo it looked as if the TCU player kept extending forward instead of naturally letting his arm drop.

Also, Caleb had his back brace on during the game, at least initially when he was on the bench.

With Jaz back at full strength, I wonder if we might sit Grill for a bit and let him fully heal for March. It looks like he's been playing through a lot of pain.
That said, I'd bet he's got a huge crowd coming to watch him in Manhattan again this year and I'd hate for him to miss it.

Lost his eye sockets, then immediately followed that up with hitting 3 straight FTs and walking off the 3rd without even watching it go in. Legend.

I missed that! I will have to watch for it on the replay.

I know I am opening a can of worms here but I thought Rob offensively played within what the defense was giving him. He was only credited with one assist but he had a few good passes out of the post that resulted in great shot opportunities and I don't recall him forcing it when double teamed. He also hit the only shot he took and in a game when two of our players had 5 or more TOs he only had one.

And what a great time to have a great game for Rob, when Shoon got in foul trouble, again.

Jaz literally is the do-everything player. He can shoot close, shoot deep, shoot FTs. He can dribble, drive, and pass out. He can defend in space and on the ball. He gets steals and charges. Not afraid of contact. Isn't a foul magnet. His headspace is clear and he's fearless. Has a solid handle and makes good decisions. He can play out with guards or in with posts.

He's just got the whole toolbox, all the little pieces you need for a multi-faceted, great contributor are all there in a single package. He's ready to go. Feed the man minutes and watch good things happen.

We sorely missed his presence in closing time situations in the month of January. It's invaluable to have a smart, versatile player at Jaz's size on the court at the end of games. He's also shooting 78.1% from the line. Jaz has the best offensive rating on the team (128.2) and 2nd best Defensive Box Plus-Minus (4.0) though he is far from one of our higher usage guys. Just contributes positively all over the floor. Elite role player and winner.
