Adding Sports?

You really dumb a lot of posts....and not just mine. You love that dumb button.
I give reactions to lots of posts. Whiners complain about the dumb ones. Some people happen to deserve a lot of them. This post is no exception.

So you are saying ISU was bringing is extra Millions of dollars during the 80s? From a Media contract? When we got on tv maybe a couple times a year..if we were lucky? And those were usually away?

Even back then football was still generally driving the bus revenue-wise. The pie was just a lot smaller

Sure we are now...but during the 80s and 90s that was not the case, when my point would have been an issue.

Hell go back to the 1920s-40s or pick almost ISUs entire history, and I think you can find a lot of years of suck, when football was not making money, like now.

But Ok, I was making a point that if you go by trends of teams sucking you can pick a lot of sports...if not ALL sports at ISU that have a range of years, if not most of the entire history of the sport where ISU has been bad, to terrible. And we still host those.

I dont think we should start dropping sports simply because we have a group of 5 years that we were bad. Hell not a group of 10 or 20 years even, because like I said there would not be many if any sports left at ISU.

Tell me you understand this, and not that dense to understand what I was actually trying to point out.

Whether that means we should bring Baseball back or not is not the point, but saying we were bad is also not the point. Instead of bringing in a new coach we just quit, because we were bad? Is that really your point? Hell our baseball history is better than a lot of sports. At least we have several outright conference championships in Baseball. Not true in a lot of sports. And even made the CWS, tell me other sports that have done as well?
lol, we made the CWS 30 years before we got rid of baseball. Really any comparison before the arms race really took off in the 90s is invalid. Have you seen the facilities that have been built up across the south? We barely can hang on to build adequate for football, our basketball (and volleyball\wrestling) facilities are woefully out of date and need tens of millions of dollars of investment. We can't afford to be adding another cost on top of that.

So if it is about being bad, or if it is about being in the north with south teams, and cant compete, and a team that is bad and doesnt bring in $$$$. Explain this, we still have a team:
Its all of the above

And before you say title 9....we are ahead on title 9 and have been since baseball...why not drop softball and pick up another sport we have a better chance at competing in, if that is what its all about.
We are a bit ahead on title ix, but that doesn't necessarily mean we can remove a womens sport. And what sport do you think we'd do better at? We probably just have the ones that are cheapest to operate.

maybe mens golf is raking in the cash in contracts too....

2000Big 1211th
2001Big 1211th
2002Big 1211th
2003Big 1212th
2004Big 128th
2005Big 129th
2006Big 1212th
2007Big 1212th
2008Big 129th
2009Big 1212th
2010Big 1210th
2011Big 12T-11th

You need to have a certain number of sports in each season and i'm guessing golf is cheaper than baseball

We are ahead on women’s, but if we dropped any, we would not be most likely.
Still missing the point..that if we simply quit any sports that we suck at for a 5 year stretch as posted. We would not be participating in any sports.....And the fact that Football makes money was then brought up...but if you go back a couple decades..it wasnt.

Oh, I never said that about only having winning sports. I do believe we have to watch money and focus on FB and MBB sense those are our only money makers.

Adding men's volleyball makes sense facility-wise, but not conference-wise.

I'd love to see beach volleyball added.
If we were to add sports, would think a key is facilities both mens/womens teams could leverage.

I would go with women's wrestling and men's soccer.

Would love if we had baseball, but IMO we would have an uphill battle to win. If the NCAA would adjust schedule to make baseball a late spring/summer sport- would be all for adding. At least initially, maybe Clones could use Principal Park.

I agree. I am not saying with above posts that we should/shouldn't add Baseball or any other sport for that matter. I was just pointing out that many of the reasons/excuses people use to justify getting rid of or not bringing back, Baseball can be discredited when you compare to other ISU sports.

In the end it all came and comes down to money.

I think bringing Baseball at this point would have a lot of things that would have to be addressed.
  • The season would need to be adjusted to more of a summer schedule to allow Northern teams to have more ability to host.
  • A large donation to specifically bring baseball back, and build a new facility, Probably a small baseball dome if the season is not adjusted.
  • A partnership with Principal Park in DM to host home games. With an adjusted schedule, this would be the most feasible cost wise.
  • The need to add the sport for whatever other reason. Need for additional Mens sports. Conference requirement/request etc.

I am not sure baseball would be the first mens sport on the list to add at this point, and I doubt it is the first choice for both men and women.

I think many of us would love to see ISU compete in several more sports. I just don't know if it will ever happen, or if it is beneficial. Money is better spent other places, at least for the foreseeable future.

Found the person who couldn't figure it out. There's always one.
Just here showing the point you tried to make doesn't make a lot of sense....when you compare it to every other sport at ISU...Unless you can prove otherwise.

Pretty sure we dropped baseball because of money. All other excuses are just excuses.

Lol, triggered much?

IMO there is zero chance ISU adds womens or mens sport until the legal issues facing the NCAA and member schools are resolved. There is too much potential financial liability hanging over athletic departments right now.

I have notifications full of the same from you...just now I will do the same to you 5 fold. So be it.

I'm responding to your posts individually, and they are continually confidently wrong- the definition of 'dumb'.

You're going back through my post history and dumbing every post because you're a giant baby about a reaction.

Pretty big difference there.

Definitely remembering why you were on the ignore list.

Instead of spending money on adding sports ISU needs to keep putting money into the sports we have.

I have said this over and over. Very few cared about ISU baseball until it went away. Even if you bring it back ISU will never compete in this conference. Good players want to go south to play. Even the good softball players from this state go south to play.

The baseball/softball schedule is perfect for the NCAA, they are not going to adjust that. They get their World Series at the perfect time on the calendar. There is no way Principal Park would be used at a home field for ISU. They don't want that field tore up before the Tripple A season even starts.

Yeah, this is basically it.

I mean, look at where we are financially now. Hilton is probably $50mil behind in improvements that need done. The concourse improvements that were already announced and delayed are one item of course, but then you have the video boards that are a decade past their expiration date, lighting and sound that are pretty poor, etc. And then you go down the list, for example if we had the resources we'd probably be looking at stuff for wrestling\volleyball for more dedicated venues.
