Like others, if I'm cooking the steak it's not going to need anything. However, if my BIL makes it into shoe leather, it's going to require A1 to choke down.

Actually, I really use A1 mostly for chicken fingers though.

This is about what you put on your grilled steak. For me, a really good steak doesn't need anything, but if someone else is cooking and they burn it, or I get a cheap cut and need to liven it up, Heinz 57 is my go-to. I don't understand A.1. I think it tastes weird.

I voted no sauce (but hadn't read your comment here). Even if someone overdid a steak, I'd probably just smother some butter on it. Don't need/want the sugar carbs found in steak sauces. Give me salt, pepper, butter and cook to medium rare to medium....and I'm good!

So you're okay with butter, just not sugar & carbs. Ok! :D

I prefer the flavor of 57, but rarely use either on any meat. None in our fridge.

Next time I go to Jericho's I need to pay attention to whether or not they even have some sort of sauce on the table.
One time I was there and some guy asked for prime rib well done and I could swear I heard the waitress gasp.

I don't like either of those sauces. In a pinch (overcooked or leftovers) I go with bbq sauce. You can put bbq sauce on just about anything and it will taste ok.

I found out that BBQ sauce is awful on hotdogs at JTS. Put ketchup and BBQ sauce in nearly identical pumps on opposite ends of the condiment table. Wasn't in a mustard mood and in a hurry. That was a nasty surprise.

Obviously a great steak needs no sauce. 57 on a steak sandwich or fries. Either works well in rice w/ veggies. A1, brown sugar and a little mustard in the BBQ baked beans.

My MIL ordered a Prime Rib special at a restaurant in town many years ago. She was revolted when it was pink inside. I believe she ate it, but was not happy about it.

I wasn't married to her daughter yet, and it made me think . . . :D

My mother will no longer eat beef unless it is well done, not sure what changed over the years because we kids grew up on medium rare.

You bet!

My ancestors (I"m pretty much 100% Scandinavian) consumed animal and animal products for thousands of years without issues (e.g....cancers, diabetes, arthritis, dementia, etc). Fruits and veggies very sparse....couldn't exactly grow them in that climate many months of the year. Sugar and carbs (e.g...grains) aren't anything they consumed.

As humans beings, it wasn't until recently (historically speaking) that we started replacing or supplementing our diets with such things.

Butter is not any of our problems....unless you are eating it with carbs and sugar laden other foods....which I guess is anyone eating a standard American diet. Bottom-line: stop eating that garbage and start slopping on the butter!

Fareways version of a1. It's way better for steaks if your into that kind of thing. 57 sauce for all things pork

57 is good on pork, pork sandwich. I never use it on steak. If I need something for steak i will use A1, which usually depends on the quality of steak, and the quality of how its cooked/grilled.

No Sauce, rubs all the way if anything.

I don't know the last time I've had someone else cook a steak so poorly it would require sauce. It's not rocket science, I guess my friends/family just aren't dumb.

We had a mutt as our family dog when I was a kid. Once I asked my dad what breed of dog she was. He told me she was a Heinz 57. I've never been able to use that sauce since.

Have you had sugar? It's amazing.

I'm totally OK with a low-carb diet, but saying "100 years ago no one had cancer, diabetes, etc!" is kind of a meaningless statement, isn't it? The average life expectancy in 1880 was about 40. You died before you got a chance to get cancer or type 2 diabetes . . . if they were even properly diagnosed.

Steak shouldn't need sauce unless it is a less desirable cut, not cooked well or is warmed up as leftovers.

I voted A1, but I like the Texas Roadhouse steak sauce better.
