3-1-1-2-1-2-2-1 ...

Both. Overachieved in the regular season. Underachieved in the post season.

I'd be curious to see a couple more pieces of info:

1. When did they get beat out in the NCAA tournament each of those years?
2. How does that compare to other top programs like Duke, UNC, etc?

Before this last weekend Carolina hadn't been to the Final 4 since 2009. Missed the tournament in 2010. Failed to make the Sweet 16 twice.

Duke 2 titles and 2 Final Fours. 2/15 loss in 2012 and 3/14 loss in 2014.

White text on a white background doesn't work so well - even in comic sans.

Shouldn't the "like" seeds records be divided by 3 (there are only 4 of each seed each year) to get a better picture for the records?

record self 27-11 Like Seeds 31-11
Final Fours self 2 Like Seeds ~4
Record vs top 7 self 5-6 Like Seeds 13-9

One thing that they didn't have - record versus 8 or lower:

Self - 22-5 Like seeds 18-2

All of that shows that KU underperforms their seeding on average.

I hate KU but most years the NCAA tournament is a crapshoot. They usually deserve to be seeded where they are. And it is always fun to watch them lose before the FF.

Agreed. Self is a great coach when he has plenty of time to game plan or is facing a conference foe that he already has the shell of a game plan for from previous seasons but he does not do well in the 2nd game of a tourney weekend or on Big Monday road games where he has limited time to develop and install a game plan. So he has underachieved in the postseason but overachieved in the regular season.

I've always contended that KU gets all the breaks during the regular season, and then when they get to the Dance they don't get the favorable calls the majority of the time.

No, KU seems to get bit every year in the tourney when they are under prepared game plan-wise and run into an aggressive team. Looking at how the tourney played out, Nova was the worst possible #2 seed that KU could have been given. If the Selection Committee had seeded to their posted 1-68 seed line without trying to line things up for Michigan State and Oklahoma then KU would have been in the Midwest with Xavier as their #2 seed and would have rolled to the Final Four.

This is cute. Just real cute.
