.

I understand it's a good game for the teams in terms of revenue, (nearly a guaranteed sell-out) and good for the economy of the two home cities.

There was a proposal by some a few years back to move it to every-other-year. I could get behind that. I don't "need" it every year but also understand I don't want it to go away. Maybe a happy medium that, in a way, intensifies the rivalry.

I do think we need to stop scheduling UNI, or at least for the first game. First game needs to be a non-emotional cupcake as cupcakey as can be (low half FCS school) to get jitters out -- especially if we're going to perpetually be a slow-starting team. Too many Iowa kids with a chip on their shoulders on UNI, and, they are a good team that would be top-half of G5 if they played in the Sunbelt, C-USA, etc.

I’m honestly sick of media members saying this.

This game might be good for the state but I am 100% convinced it’s bad for Iowa State. Gameday was great.

Ultimately anybody who survived that crucible in Ames yesterday left just exhausted and defeated. When the punt turnover happened nobody yelled. There was no “oh no!” Shout. Everybody just shambled out of the stadium like it was the zombie apocalypse.

Losing games like this and losing consistently in the noncon is bad for Iowa State. We sell plenty of tickets with or without Iowa. The AD is funded by the TV contracts.

If this sounds like a scared to play Iowa or something post... it is. Playing them is a 50/50 win chance at best. The last decade they’ve won much more than that. Convince me this game is good for Iowa State.

Defeatist take. Sorry.

Life is hard. A season of FB has challenges. This is how it is supposed to work. If you run from things in an effort to try and guarantee no bumps in the road and the easiest life (and FB season possible) , you water everything down and the results in the end? meh.

This is bad for the state?????

Friday at work, everyone is wearing their Iowa or Iowa State gear. We call it quits at 3 and have a tailgater with beer, wine, food, and prizes....at work. Everyone has a good time with banter back and forth. In my neighborhood people were flying their school of choice colors proudly. None of this happens without a true intrastate rivalry game. Does this change the world? No, but it adds to the experience of living in this state.

It's good for the state. I don't care about that.

It's bad for ISU football. I care about that.

IMO trying to elevate the level of this program by playing games that are at best a 50% win probability when you don't have to is foolish.

I've said my piece. Peace out.

OK...I see your distinction now. My bad on missing that.

That said, I don't agree that in the long run that this isn't good for ISU FB given the interest and attention this game has in the state in which we are located.

First...I agree with the "good for the state" thing. F the state. The second part....had we scored 19 points would you even have started this thread? The state of our program isn't measured by how we do against a non conference opponent. No championships worth a darn go through Iowa City. Maybe a decade or two ago it meant a lot because the only quality opponent we could beat was Iowa. Because we certainly weren't going to beat OU, Texas, Kansas States of the Big Twelve. That's changed. Iowa is on a streak......who cares. Until last year KSU had beat us 10 straight. OU has lost to us twice............................in 58 years. Losing is never good, but to a good Iowa by 1 rather than North Dakota State by 20. Yeah, we're okay. I don't usually say this to people but....the past is in the rear view mirror...let it go.

A topic that is discussed all the time is that college football has lost those regional rivalries. See WV in the big 12. That passion, where you live next to you rivals, is what helps fuel the passion and fanbase and create a passionate fanbase. Win or lose, I still think the benefit is greater than the loss if we didn't play them.

An honest question, would Nebraska be a better non-conference opponent.
1) you have traditional border rival so still fan interest. Western Iowa is either Nebraska fans or Fans who hate Nebraska.
2) Nebraska runs a more traditional Big12 offense which would better prepare for regular season. Iowa runs a more pro-set which is not typical in Big12.
3) Nebraska is currently lower on the Power 5 scale and struggling.

How in the world can it be good for ISU football to lose five years in a row? I can tell you 15 straight losses did to the football program....Most of the seats in JTS was impersonating fans, because nobody wanted to watch the cyclones play football esp after our yearly loss to the TOE.....

Huck the Fuskers, Once they bolted from the Big XII, I never want to schedule them again.

It wouldn't' be better, it would be different.

I suppose your perspective is somewhat based on where you live currently but you can't replace the vested interest of the masses in Iowa found intrastate vs across the border.
