.

At what point should a person start wondering about how much better we can be next year? Not that I don't think they can't take a step forward, and that the additions to next years team could bring more talent. But right now this team, and specifically the players that are supposed to be impact players next year, are starting to look like they don't care on the floor when things are not going well. Which right now seems like all the time.

This is my concern. I like this team and the players. But it's tough to go from truly awful to good enough for the tourney. And right now, this team is really pushing it as far as how bad they are.

Outside of the Tech win, which was great and a real bright spot, we've gotten curbstomped 3 of the last 4 games and the offense has looked horrible. That's what concerns me - if we're bringing back basically the same roster, Shayok and the freshman better be phenomenal.

And please explain how a coach is supposed to do this? And I mean exactly - no fluff, no theory, just explain to us - and Steve- exactly how you would do this? Does anyone not recall the years of Dejean Jones or Mackay. People like you wanted to crucify Fred because he didn't "handle" those guys properly. Very tired of arm chair coaches who think they have all the answers. Do you even know Prohm; is it even possible for you to look at his total performance since he came here, rather than 2 or 3 recent games? Sheesh, posts like this are frustrating.
Let me try and address each of the issues in your post.
- a coach prepares each player for their role on the team and coaches them toward that role. Identify the player who has influence on the team and espouses the values and traits you want the team to show.
- I have no answers for D1 basketball success only opinions, none of which involve firing a coach. I want him to stay amd show he can be our coach.
- My concerns are based on years, not a few games. Prohm was hired partially due to an efficient offense yet we really have no offensive identity and he was a guard whisperer but we have no real guard.
- I do not know Coach Prohm, maybe you could introduce us?

I was in school at the beginning of the Orr era. I remember Johnny saying that losing was ok if you put on an entertaining show. I think that is where a lot of ISU fans are right now. They have come to terms with the fact that this isn't going to be a great year, but what we saw yesterday was a long way from entertaining.

The players looked disinterested, especially Lard, and that has to go to the coach. Prohm gets paid a lot of money to get these kids into the right frame of mind to compete. Yesterday they did not compete, and unfortunately, yesterday's performance is closer to the norm of late than the performance against TT.

ISU fans are pretty forgiving but if the players don't care it will be hard for the fans to continue to care.

The next few games will be a test of Prohm's motivational capabilities. Will this team bounce back or fold. They look a lot closer to folding, but we shall see.

Jesus people, 7 days ago we had a historic win in Hilton.

I can't believe there are so many idiots who think the coach should be fired. Actually, I can believe there are so many people on here that are idiots.

Link to people saying coach should be fired.

Tennessee may end up being one of the tougher games on our schedule, especially with as weak as the Big 12 looked yesterday.

What concerns me the most is now we are getting into the meat of our schedule. I dont see us winning a road game and the way TCU handled us last time that might not be a win in Hilton. Realistically we have one game left that we can even hope to win.

Whats going to be the measure of progress if we only win 1 game the rest of the season?

Start by not giving up 100 to Nebraska. You have enough to worry about your own team.

Most of my friends in Iowa are hawk fans. They’re just honest about it.

Lol, I've already explained hundreds of times to you and your 2 conspiracy buddies that it's ok for some people to actually watch other teams, especially in your home state.

If you want to argue with me personally grow a pair and message me, otherwise quit clogging up these threads with nonsense. That' the last time I'll address you in public.

I'll admit that I watched Iowa's game last night, and I was impressed that they bothered to try.
Their run to start the second half was, frankly, some fun and outstanding basketball. They're still bad, but like all of Fran's teams, they always give a max effort.

Nobody in this state apparently plays defense. Maybe Drake, but I haven't watched a Drake game yet.

It's his schtick. He does the same crap on the politics board.

Drake started off good but is coming back to earth. I think they got hot for a couple weeks but are playing back to their talent level now.

I don't know guys.....I may be all wet here...but watching Michigan State and Maryland play right now..makes me envious. Why? Not because they're perfect teams by any stretch of the imagination, or that the big10 is top notch, but just the fact that both teams have multiple players on the court (and off the bench) that can MAKE SHOTS at all levels. Might be off the dribble, catch and shoot, off a screen, etc. Its so hard to judge our team or our coaching right now....because we don't have any consistency of players creating or MAKING SHOTS!! I might add that it doesn't appear that their offenses do that many things different that guys often do in ours. They just have more scorers. So what happens, as often pointed out with our small margin for error? ..... the team gets blasted if they don't play 110% perfect defense. Just a frustrating situation for all involved. Think about it. Our lack of offensive scorers really puts the pressure on getting many wins.

UNI played defense. But every team in that league knew that they wouldn’t push the ball hard enough to get any separation on the scoreboard. They would let you stick around, and it required that they needed to make 3 plays at the end of the game to win

That 0-5 start in the valley forced him to make some changes. He still plays Carlson way way too much, but he’s giving brown and Pickford more of the load. Starting Phyfe over Koch has made them a bit more efficient offensively as well. They have enough to win 3 games in St. Louis, but somehow they will lose a close game to a worse team.

Drake has a pretty limited roster, but they have seniors. The new coach gave them a fresh start, and that has led to some confidence a team that’s taken as many l’s as they have would never have had under jeff green.

This is true, nice post.

The margin of error when you’re team is made up of freshmen and retreads is small enough.

The way you get better at this point is to recruit.

Transfers we didnt originally recruited to ISU.... Babb, Beverly, Talley, Brase
Juco...Donovan
Freshmen....Wigginton, Lard, Lewis
Solomon and Long, recruits not highly ranked per se and sophomores, and more role players, imo.

When I re-look at this group, its not hard to understand our struggles. Hope everyone involves hangs in there and has each other's backs, including their coach. Surely better days ahead.
