.

People still ragging on Tech..weird. I'll type it again: they're an NCAA tourney team with lots of returners.

That said, it looked bad for 30 minutes.

Imo Young and Weiller all the difference and if they're not starting/playing more Prohm is playing politics.

Shot out to Jackson too as he's at least active without the ball.

Prohm isn't a politics guy . . . he cued the team and fans alike last night with his Izzo quote . . . production wins the day (and playing time).

The one common theme during the second half tonight, the run vs Gonzaga and much of the Miami game was that pace was Helter Skelter, there was plenty of early offense. Unlike past years there is some good depth, and sans Niang half court offense is brutal right now. This team plays best in chaos and has the bodies to do it. I loved the energy and ball movement by Jackson. He is really improving. I'd like Young to start with Bowie coming off the bench and sticking to hitting the offensive glass, which he does well. NWB continues to impress me as well.

I agree with this we need chaos. The token pressure helped us a lot because we only had to be down for 20 seconds instead of 30 because ttu was milking the clock like a dairy cow.

Like which games? I have a feeling this is more your own perception rather than a reality.

that might be true but this is one reality that you can't deny:

We should be shooting 90% as a team from the line. What do these guys have to do besides practice free throws?

I know it's "hip" or something on here to hate the way WV plays basketball, but I tend to like most of what they do, and not only that, I think we should play a lot more like them with our personnel.

We have lots of guards and very little frontcourt. So why not just have our guards just play intense defense and hound the opponent constantly and create turnovers and run like crazy off those turnovers? When our guards get tired, put in 3 or 4 new guards and keep up the harassment.

If we don't create just constant chaos out there, then teams with halfway decent frontcourts will destroy us. We can't even allow the opponent to get into their sets offensively IMO. Just hound them and take them out of everything they want to do.

I see us playing a 4 guard lineup, but we don't actually play any differently than any other team. If we are going to play a very small 4 guard lineup, we had better run, gun, and create total chaos out there and run the opponents bigs to death.

Texas Tech went to the NCAA tourney last year, and has beaten ISU several times in the last few years, including vs. Hoiberg. It's not Prohm's fault that Tech is more athletic than ISU.

Thomas playing is fine. Things need to open up for him and he's money from the FT line.

Burton played like he got REALLY high before the game and imo Young needs to be in there more, and probably protected on defense at this point to avoid foul trouble.
No way we will get many wins with the coaching we have. It has to improve dramatically. Will Fred be available at te end of the season?

Somebody in some thread before the game yesterday said, the more we see of Weiler-Babb, Young, and Jackson, the happier we're all going to be.

Oh, wait; that was me.

If this team goes 4 and 1 post them they have to defend and rebound because the half court offense stinks. that's what sparked the comeback; Tech started missing. They shot around 50% at the half and ended up at 38%. The lineup might have played a part. The better rebounding was necessary. This allowed the offense to get out and run.

Tech continued to crash the boards with their wings during our comeback. When we were able to get the rebound they couldn't get back in transition D quick enough. Bit surprised that Beard continued to do that when we we're torching them in transition.

No way does my vote of 6-7 conference wins changes. I don't trust Prohm to keep Burton/Thomas on the bench as much as they should (and Burton will become even MORE of a liability when he doesn't think he's the guy). I don't trust Prohm to play Young as much as he should (wanting to give too much love to the SR transfers), and we're not going to play a "lower division" opponent like Texas Tech every time. This team needed the crowd and a not so great opponent to come back and win, unfortunately.

Why would you want Thomas on the bench?

The token pressure worked last year too, we just didn't have the bodies to do it much and had enough half court offense to not need that pace. Some of the half court traps and extended ball pressure with Jackson in the game were really effective too. That pace is not exactly Burton's style, but it gave him some room in the lane to operate vs Gonzaga. He was totally gassed but was unreal during that stretch.

Does this mean Fred makes the players better athletes too?

So far this season Fred is remembered for never doing the following:
Losing at Iowa, losing non-conference games at home, losing in the Big 12 tourney, losing early in the first round of the NCAA's, losing to Texas Tech, giving up late leads, never being behind at home, and not recruiting for the future.

Fred might be available but he doesn't want to coach at Iowa State. That ship has sailed. His interest in the Gopher job should tell you all you need to know.

Tech got lots of easy looks the first half. The pressure in the second half plus Young on Livingston led to much more difficult shots and took TTU out of its rhythm. Not that an ugly win at home against a solid but not great team should be cause for celebration, I have optimism for this team. They defend, have good depth, and I think Prohm is starting to get the personnel pieces figured out and will start to click. Youngs injury slowed the process down, but I think it will come together.

Go back and look at all the terrible slow starts against bad teams, very much like last night. Fred's teams had plenty of those as well, in fact the Fred era came to a terrible close that way.
I guess people prefer to complain about terrible defense instead of terrible offense.
Fred (plus TJ) were great for ISU and fun while it lasted. It's over. Prohm may not be the guy long term, but if his comparison is a revised history of a coach that wanted out and is never coming back, along with an absolute ace recruiter that is now a head coach, that isn't fair.
Here's what I can say about Prohm. The team plays hard for him. He has dramaticalky improved our defense. He has recruited well, even with the Malou and Lard issues. In his only full season he matched Fred's line Sweet 16.
