***2024 Minnesota Vikings***

It ran almost all of the time off the clock.
The difference was going to be run one play or maybe 2 at the most. All that by putting a live ball for some DBs to run while you’ve got a K, P several OL and TE types trying to make a tackle. And if he was supposed to corner kick then you just punt it anyway.

It was a horrible call that chewed up a few more seconds than running a regular play or punting it OB would’ve done, gained no field position and was as high a ridk for giving up a big return as any play you could draw up given the personnel on each team’s unit.

It was a terrible, terrible call that was lucky it didn’t backfire.

Priority #1 this offseason needs to be resign Kirk Cousins.
Priority #2 this offseason is resign Justin Jefferson

Then with wherever we land in the draft find interior online, DB, backup QB…

I'm not really interested in seeing this team in playoff game either. Get a good pick.

Yeah seems like we are stuck in the cycle where the ceiling is a playoff win. Otherwise its basically a C+ performance, maybe a winning record and a meh draft pick. Give me an A or give me an F.

Cousins will never lead the team to a Super Bowl. He hasn’t done it yet. And he has a major injury at 35+ years of age to recover from. Time to move on.

If the Vikings end the season 8-9 or 9-8, maybe in the playoff or maybe just missing out, then they are unlikely to be in a draft position where a high end QB will be available.

I would support a short term Cousins extension if it came at a reasonable price. But Cousins will likely command more $$$ as a free agent than I think Minnesota should pay him. So it would depend whether he would consider a discount to stay here to wrap up his career with the best WR in the league. If Brian Flores stays as DC, the Vikings could be in the mix to compete in the NFC with Cousins. But I also think the gap between SF, PHI, and DAL and the rest of the NFC is pretty large.

Not saying he would have this year but damn he was playing the best ball of his career before getting hurt. Between that and watching Quarterbacks, was rooting so hard for him. Now...at his age and that contract (or I should say figuring out the next contract for him)...man not sure what they do.

It all depends on the price. If Kirk decides he wants market value, then the Vikings probably should let him walk, but I doubt they will. My guess is they'll structure a deal that has a more cap-friendly structure for a year or two, then puts the team in cap hell for a couple years after. Maybe a Rams/Stafford type of deal. I think that would be a bad move, but I can see both parties agreeing to it rather than a reset.

This year across the NFL has been super predictable. We had this great batch of young franchise QBs that everybody thought were better than Cousins, Stafford, Prescott, Goff, etc. Then, magically, most of these star young franchise QBs are struggling to get their teams into playoff position. Did they suddenly become worse QBs? No, they just have to face the reality of their cap hit implications that those veteran QBs deal with.

Completely agree, it was an insanely risky play considering most on the field aren’t involved with punt coverage. Just taking the delay of game and sending out punt team would’ve been better or kick the field goal.

Way too much unnecessary risk at a time like that.

Agreed. Cousins has played terribly since KOC arrived. Dobbs is clearly the future. SKOL! :jimlad:

I'm so tired of this franchise being perfectly mediocre.....just suck and get a good draft pick or go far in the playoffs.......it seems are offense and defense can't be good at the same time

In that case, the team hasn't had any good QBs in the last 45 or so years. I would also say the Jets should move on from Rodgers. He won't lead them to a SB this year, has the same "major injury," is over 35 years of age, and the last time he was in the SB was 12 years ago!

Lastly, an Achilles injury for Cousins isn't a huge issue; he has never been a mobile QB. All he does is move around a little in the pocket when needed. His performance won't diminish once he recovers from the injury.

Receivers like Cousins because he will put the ball where they can catch it without taking a major hit from a defender. We don't have to look too far back to see what happens when a throw puts a receiver in a vulnerable position.....

I'll admit I was souring on Kirk as the QB, but as this season has shown we need him back.

I haven't seen anything from what is available through free agency or the upcoming draft class that is a better option at franchise QB than Kirk.

Give him what he wants to resign and set the table for a developmental qb in the following years.

Exactly this. Sign Kirk to a 2 year deal and start looking for your long time QB now

Kirk has actually been great for the past three seasons, including in crunch time. Even the last Zimmer year, he was awesome in go-ahead drives in the last 5 mins of games, but the defense was hot garbage.

It's very unfortunate, because Flores is now getting this defense to overachieve like no other unit in the NFL. I would love to get Flores one more season before he gets another HC chance, but it's probably not happening.

Hopefully if/when he goes, KOC hires one of Flores' protégées.

Why do I have a terrible feeling the Packers are going to end up getting the 7 seed and we aren’t?
Well, it doesn't hurt that they have the easiest schedule in the last 50 years of NFL history... and the refs at Lambeau are always good for a couple of victories.
