***2024 Minnesota Vikings***

Hadn't heard about Harrison Smith. Happy to hear that, I think he still has some good years left in him.

I'm really curious to see what the Mattison signing means for Cook. I can't picture any scenario where they keep both.
I hope they find a team willing to trade for Cook. He's a great back, but doesn't fit into this offense anymore. Mattison is more than capable to provide near the same output at a fraction of the price for Cook.

I believe the obstacle to trading him is that many teams feel the same and hence aren't interested in paying a back with high miles his current salary.

I don't believe this, but if they pick up a couple young dudes they can make it work.

Really like Kwesi’s moves so far this off-season. 2024 is setting up to be the big spend off-season, but these moves will hopefully keep us competitive for next year as well
I’m not seeing anything yet that’s not treading water talentwise for the defense—and they need to ramp up. A lot.

Although the years saved at corner from Peterson to Murphy does seem significant…

Minnesota has a really nice core to hit a SB window with a cheap contract QB. I'm moving to team take a QB and start the process

Weapons: Jefferson and Hockenson
OL protection: O'Neil and Darrisaw

They need a TON of help on the defensive side to have any legitimate chance at making a SB run
Unless you have Mahomes, Allen, or Burrow. Step 1 in the SB process is a cheap QB contract. Step two is weapons on offense, step 3 and 4 are both sides of the line of scrimmage.

If MN goes QB in round 1, you would have 3 steps done with many years to remaining in their careers. Then you can spend cap and draft capital on building out the defense and luxury wants.

Drafting a QB and drafting a quality QB are two drastically different things. I'd like to think this new front office can do it but the draft is such a crap shoot.

I disagree with the first sentence. It's if you have Mahomes period.

Burrow is on his rookie deal with incredible skill position players, and his great clutch playoff productivity is almost identical to Cousins' playoff productivity. The bottom line is even though the Bengals defense hasn't been a top defense in the regular season, in Burrow's playoff starts they have been unreal, averaging only about 17 ppg and 2 turnovers per game. I suspect if you plugged in the winning percentage of the average QB in the NFL, it's pretty much off the charts in games where their defense will give up 17 points and turn over the opposition twice. Meanwhile in Cousins' career playoff starts his defenses have given up something like 28 ppg and average less than a TO generated.

I really like Burrow, I think he's great. But I think people expecting the Bengals to be head to head with the Chiefs and Mahomes once Burrow's at a $40M plus cap hit are going to be disappointed.

As for Allen, he was on his second deal, but this past season was a "pay the piper" season in that second deal. His cap hit starts going up rapidly. It's only going to get far more difficult for the Bills from a cap perspective.

Really you have three options:
1. Have Mahomes
2. Have a really good QB on his rookie deal
3. Roll the dice on one cap friendly year like the Rams did with Stafford, knowing you are going to be in cap hell for years after.

Many expect Kwesi to trade down but stay in the first round for the 5th year option. Doubt Addison is there in the late 20s, but Hooker or another good receiver should be.

I'm sure it depends on who's available. If someone they have as a top 10 talent is available at 23, they will stay there. If they get to pick 23 and they have 10 guys graded in a very similar range, they'll trade down if they can.

They aren't gonna win **** until they stop giving up 30 ppg.

I'm sure they will draft defense, but they shouldn't reach. It'd be dumb to draft a 2nd round LB talent at #23 in the first round.

On the other hand, if a high end defensive player is available at #23, they will take him. I actually wonder about them with Will McDonald. Would certainly fill a need assuming they trade Zadarius.

I'd be very happy if they took McDonald. I could also get on board with taking a WR with their first round pick, as well.

I could also see them grabbing a quarterback like Hooker with their pick. I'm mixed on that.

While he was as high as 8 on draft predictions he's more recently been out of the first entirely. Just don't reach.
I like the idea of Hooker, but it does nothing for this year at all.
Somebody had them going up to get Levi's and the more I hear and see of him the less I like that.
