MLB: ***2024 Minnesota Twins***

Buxton has been terrible lately. It seems that he is who he is at this point in his career. So much talent, not much is coming from it. It does make you wonder when it might be time to trade him. Not saying we should, but is Minnesota really getting much from him?

Twins lead the league in strikeouts (hitting) by a mile. The distance between them and #2 is the same as between #2 and #10.

They really need to put Buxton on the 10 day IL and if he's not better, move shut him down for the season. Hopefully its just his nagging injuries that are causing it. I finally got to see a game last night and he just looked completely pathetic.
This is Byron Buxton now. I don’t want it to be the truth either but I think this is what it is now.

Maybe if the injuries are persistent and can't be recovered from, but you don't go from the type of hitter he was to the type of hitter he is now if healthy unless the Nerdlucks stole his talent.

Somewhere along, he decided hitting 400 foot moon shots was more important than hitting the damn ball. He used to be really good at hitting line drives to the outfield, but now he's become a similar version of Gallo.

Or Sorano from Major League. And somebody in the clubhouse must of screwed with Jo-Boo’s rum. I blame Pagan.

Is anyone in the big leagues hotter than Eddie Julien? In 36 July at bats he’s slashing .531/.583/1.094.
With Polanco coming back soon, does Julien’s hot bat force the Twins to sit Buxton?

I think it has to. At least they sat Buxton for 2 games and moved him down in the order (not that it helped).

Other options are to put Polanco at third, put Julien at 1st (move Kiriloff to LF/RF instead of Gallo/Kepler).

I find myself starting to become more interested as we creep along towards the playoff push and trade deadline. Hope the Twins can keep competing enough to maintain my interest. This time of year is so slow and boring for sports.

They will stay in the race likely. Mostly because the division is complete trash.

I don’t see the Twins doing much at the trade deadline. Not sure they have much to offer although Kepler and Pagone have increased their value a little as of late.
Do the Twins doing something ‘radical’ such as putting Buxton on the block?

Buxton has a no trade clause and nobody would want him.

I think they pick up a RP and a right handed hitting OF. Randal Grichuk is my guess, who would come cheap. Grichuk has been crushing lefties.

I don't think they'll go big on RP either. Some middle of the road guy that doesn't cost much. There bullpen has actually been pretty good, especially the last couple months. 8th in ERA, 4th in WHIP, 5th in fewest hrs.

Give Pagan a week of his “norm” and he will just say hold my beer to those bullpen stats.

Thanks, forgot about the no trade clause for Buxton.
Regarding the bullpen, it’s puzzling why Lopez has just fallen apart. Don’t think I’ve ever seen a guy hit three batters in one inning like Lopez did yesterday.

104 mph fastballs, 99 mph splitters, curveballs with a 47 inch vertical drop. It’s no wonder former MLB pitchers like Dontrelle Willis say Duran has the best stuff of any a guy in the big leagues. Another gutty outing last night.

Do we all owe Kepler an apology?

Depends how all in on the "Kepler is trash" narrative you were. Outside an unusual 2019 he is who he is, good fielding but somewhat below average bat for a corner OF. He's not as bad as he was in May, he's not as good as he's been here in July. Given the glut of LH corner OF type bats on this team I'd still be very amenable to trading him for either a RH corner OF bat or a relief pitcher.
