2023 Cyclone Volleyball

Whew that was ugly for a bit there. Cyclones just looked slow to react etc. about halfway through the fourth it became apparent the hawks didn’t have the stamina to keep it up.

We all had fun and saw the Cyclones win!

Reverse sweep, Schmitt seemed to pop in a lot of the plays I read.

Didn't see the match but looked at the box which indicated CJL benched Gonzalez for Schmitt and it turned out to be a great move in flipping the match to ISU's favor.

Hopp's and Schmitt's lines are terrific. Great comeback. Hopp closed Set 3 with two kills to save ISU's rear. Buettner, the TX State transfer, gave ISU fits.

Eh, I don't think so regarding starters being out. That TOE team with Buzzerio (who starred for Pitt's Final 4 team last season) wasn't all that bad but still for ISU to lose in the fashion they did was not good:

Yeah, I had to go back and look. It was Annie Hatch and Avery Rhodes who were out that match (both starters at the time). It wasn't 3-4 like I thought, just seemed like it. And I agree, not good. Thankful we won last night though!

The fact they spotted them two sets makes me a lot more nervous for conference play. Plus I have no idea how good the new teams are.

that and the 3rd set collapses they did last weekend - won't get away with that often in conference play

It’s a young team. These pre-conference matches have been good experiences, especially last two. The competition will be getting tougher, let’s hope they carry the right things from it.

You're absolutely right. I get sucked into pessimism as is the ISU tradition. They fought through to get the wins which hasn't always been the case. Brandt as a sophomore is just getting stronger and we have so many excellent hitters that if 1-2....3....4 are having a rough night, CJL can bring in someone with a fresh look and they take over in key moments like Schmitt did last night. And this has been a long stretch of road games and big travel with more this weekend! Big test with Creighton before coming back home.

Saturday, 6:00 - at Omaha (0-4; losses to A&M, KU, NU and KSU)
Sunday, 4:00 - vs #16 Creighton (5-2)

Won the second 25-23. Not sure what’s going on. Tried the Cyclone app’s live stats and it was stuck on 22-20 and a timeout forever.

Our middles aren't having as much success as they have been lately. Our serving was so tough first set...served a little more passively that second set. Hopefully they can focus in this 3rd and get the off plays dialed in again

We arent passing great right now which makes our offense predictable and Omaha getting momentum, not what you want to see.
