Pretty good hire for the Lobos I think:

I feel like UNLV and New Mexico are at an athletics crossroads. They are the predominant universities in their states. They have a window before the next round of TV Contracts to lift their standing as realignment options for the Big12.

Odom did a great job in his first year at UNLV and I'm sure UNLV's leadership hope he can develop UNLV into a dominant MWC school. By scheduling WSU and OSU, it gives the MWC schools as upper end benchmark on the field and fan support.

I don't see any case where that happens, even if they suddenly had a ton of success. Its unlikely either of those teams could bring a pro-rata increase in revenue, and its likely the Big 12 would have its eyes on potential ACC defections first anyway.

The NCAA proposal for a new subdivision of college football is pointing to the endgame. Something like that is where we are headed.

SMU caught the last helicopter out of Hanoi when they got an ACC invite.

Competing for playoff football/national championship is going to be a choice schools actively (and potentially, regularly) need to make at some point down the line. Everyone in FBS isn't going to be included, or want to be.

My hope would be that once you pull football out of the mix, the desire for these large unwieldy conferences will dry up immediately and people will come to their senses and reconstitute a conference model for other sports that actually works for the student athletes.

I agree it's a big stretch for UNM. But if we end up at 3 conferences and the Big12 is 24+ teams, then adding a 6th MTZ team could add value.

Also if the realignment add happens when the TV deal is negotiated, any dilution might get lost in the increased TV rights $. Aka average annual Big12 TV amount under extension is $32Mish. What if average annual is $48M under new deal with UNLV?

MASSIVE loss for KSU with Klein heading the A&M.

Their starling QB in the portal then?

Will Howard already announced his decision to head to the portal as a grad transfer. While he was the starter, I don't think KSU or their fans are that disappointed. They are looking forward to moving on with Avery Johnson.

I think the assumption is Johnson will be following Klein.

I was curious as to how serious the rumors are. I think it very well could come to fruition. That said, I saw this following "daily update" from a KSU "insider" who claims that Avery (and his family) have stated that they are committed to the Wildcats & to the bowl game. I'll be very interested to see how that loyalty plays out AFTER the bowl game.
