2023-24 ISU WBB Season Thread

For almost anyone, an 18-footer is a really bad shot. She knocks those down like they are nothing.

I am super super high on her potential, and I'm obviously not alone on that. I know I'm preaching to the choir here.
I’ve never seen a freshman, who plays like they are a junior or senior. She has incredible confidence and won’t back down to anything. Her skill set is phenomenal.

Some Big 12 talk related to Cyclones. Will be interesting to see what the polls look like when they come out. WVU was never as good as their record but ranked is ranked so that win was important but the Baylor one should get some attention. Will we get enough votes to vault into the 25? WVU will obviously fall like a rock, maybe to not even receiving votes. KSU should finally get into the Top Ten. Texas and Baylor will both drop but maybe not a lot.

Here's the latest NET. We continue to move up incrementally. It's an algorithm, not a poll, so it's one game at a time but we have moved a lot since December. Think we were in the 60's?

Path to the title musings.

Pretty obvious that our two games with KSU will be huge in determining whether we can win the Big 12, or a piece of the title. We have three games remaining with who I think are real contenders (I don't count the Sooners in that group yet) and two will be with KSU. KSU and ISU are both two up on Baylor and Texas but also +1 in the head-to-head. KSU has the tougher path than ISU, they play Texas twice. Baylor has a tougher "comeback" since they only play ISU and KSU once and are two back.

Our next opponent is Texas Tech. Lost big to Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Texas. They did beat Kansas during their skid and a not great Houston team. Are they frauds as acustimac as said? I would say yes.

I expect to win this next one. I hope we can get over a big week and get back to the regular grind. Go Clones!

I like this more impromptu and less scripted use of social media. It has not been the ISU way but with personalities like Audi's they need more of this. I get it wasn't exactly a strength of some of our past stars with their reserved personalities (not really their jam) but it also wasn't our programs thing either. If there is a loosening of the reigns I am all in for it.

Iowa State Women's Basketball was named 'Team of the Week' in this week's ESPN Power Rankings Monday write up ~ great to see Audi and Addy get noticed and recognized for their efforts and results! Clearly, Emily Ryan helps make this team better with her return.

It will be interesting to see if Iowa State gets votes or is ranked this week in the polls which usually come out on Tuesdays.

Great to see more parity in women's basketball with 7 of top 14 team losing this past weekend. I don't think I have ever seen this happen in the past 25 years.

Team of the week: Iowa State

The Cyclones lost three starters from last season's team that won the Big 12 tournament title, including Ashley Joens, the program's all-time scoring and rebounding leader. But led by the freshman duo of Audi Crooks and Addy Brown, plus the return from early-season injury of point guard Emily Ryan, Iowa State is tied for first in the conference.

This past week, the Cyclones trailed ranked teams West Virginia and Baylor at halftime but rallied to win both games. Crooks had a combined 45 points and 17 rebounds; Brown 21 points, 19 rebounds and 13 assists.

The team definitely can improve. Now there's another challenge: how to switch from the "hunter" to the "hunted" as they are a ranked team.

^This. They've been playing the no one loves us or pays attention to us card a bit too much for my taste. They will be favored in both games this week. Even the Baylor game was only a 1.5 point spread (I can't remember which way) versus the #4 team (at that time) so the disrespect card was a bit overplayed even before that game.

Who's been playing it? Guess I haven't heard. The phrases I keep hearing are about growth and never quitting. As for our ladies making a shift...I'm not sure they should ever shift from being a hunter. That means they are always on the offensive regardless of who they play.
