Wasn’t quite sure where to put this but I think this “could” answer the question regarding Gabe’s status at ISU next year.
Can't open the tweet, can you share the gist?

Bates would 100% start over Ward. Iowa State has not had a player like Bates in a long time.Doesn't sound like we can afford.. Also kind of redundant with the Ward take IMO
Thoughts?
I think Bates has a much higher ceiling than Ward, especially on offense. Agree his skillset is probably more redundant with Ward's than Basile or Vander Plas though.Doesn't sound like we can afford.. Also kind of redundant with the Ward take IMO

Ward is a great add but I've some some Cato comps for him which he just won't be. Bates on the other hand...yeah, that's a Cato level player.Bates would 100% start over Ward. Iowa State has not had a player like Bates in a long time.
I mean, I would just say look into his production if you think people who are saying he ideally isn't playing much into the future are the ones with selective memory. He was an outlier in not a great way in the B12 this season.

Same question was asked 4 transfers ago. LOL.How is Arkansas still looking for transfers? Aren't they at 19 on the roster right now?

For sure, I won't disagree there. I think he's good in a role where he can be used more in better matchups for him, probably against teams with a big/strong center, etc. I think it's pretty expected he'd have a smaller role next year, but barring something like getting two more posts in and Rob deciding himself he doesn't want to deal with that small of a role I can't see him not as a Cyclone next year.Sure. I'm not going to defend the stats of our end-of-rotation guy against the players in the best conference in the country. I was just reacting to the idea that he was completely outmatched all year and should never play for us this year. I think that's ignoring the contributions he made. I'd be shocked if he doesn't play a role (maybe a smaller one) again for TJ this year.
FWIW at one time you only had 3yrs eligibility and if you transfered you had to sit out a year and lost that year as well. The NCAA allows one transfer with immediate eligibility. King used his when he transferred to Georgetown. Since this is King’s second transfer, he has to sit out. FWIW, the NCAA used to require all transfers to it out a year, even if it was your first one.
King & Kunc might be close to the same size- but their skills differ. Kunc is a spot up jump shooter, he's not going to pound the ball and drive to the basket much. Tre King can get his shot off the dribble or spot up.He did shoot 34% on 3P in his last season at EKU, albeit on 56 attempts.
They’re definitely competing for playing time. How could they not be? You think Kunc is the one that plays further from the basket, yet King is going to play the three?
I think they’re both mostly 4s. King playing the 3 isn’t ideal, particularly with Williams at pg, but Kunc could play some 5 Imo in more offense based lineups.

I keep hearing people talk about position-less basketball. Based on the motion ISU ran last season, it would be no issue to put Williams, Gabe/Grill, King, Kunc and Ward/Jones on the court at the same time.
I’m not too worried about King and Ward defensively even against smaller / quicker lineups. They have the length and athleticism to negate a lot of that.Except defensively if a team has quick guards/wings that exploit King/Kunc/Ward. It seems like the team that goes small/quick usually has the upper hand in exploiting mismatches - unless the bigger team can really control/own the offensive glass.
No one has said their skills don’t differ. In fact, the opposite was implied. But they will still compete for minutes at the 4.King & Kunc might be close to the same size- but their skills differ. Ward will and can guard 1-5 at times.Except defensively if a team has quick guards/wings that exploit King/Kunc/Ward. It seems like the team that goes small/quick usually has the upper hand in exploiting mismatches - unless the bigger team can really control/own the offensive glass.
You’re getting carried away with no position stuffWard will and can guard 1-5 at times.
