2019 Women's World Cup

Yep, but they better not letdown vs. England

Definitely. USA is essentially either Brazil or Germany of the women's game - the best in the world. But, just as in the men's game, Brazil and Germany don't win it every time, just like the USA women don't. The English and German women are both good enough to pop us.

LOL at Neville trying to create controversy by being all pissy about staffers checking out the same hotel where England is staying.

Maybe a matchup thing, maybe an injury thing, maybe saving her for the final. Who knows what Jill Ellis is thinking...

Any idea why Rapinoe would not start?

The prevailing thought process I've seen is that Press is faster and a better defender and England's right back Lucy Bronze is one of the best players in the world.

Not sure I agree with the switch or that's actually Ellis' logic (mostly because she doesn't seem to have any), but that's what the actual soccer people seem to think.

Lucy Bronze, England’s right back, is their best player. Press for Rapinoe could be a move to get somebody who’s faster and who’s going to cover more ground on that side of the field to both cover Bronze and attack the space she vacates in that side when she goes forward.

Pinoe is awesome, but pace is not one of her biggest assets. Don’t sleep on Press, she’s lightning quick and plenty skillful. She’d probably start for other national teams in the tournament.

Defending Bronze is part of it, but Press could also be great at attacking that space on the left at speed when Bronze gets caught upfield in the attack. I would also not be surprised to see a Rapinoe for Alex Morgan sub at some point if England takes a page from Spain and plays hack-a-Alex. Press could easily move to the middle later in the game.

They really need to fix how teams are matched up for the knock out rounds. It is a travesty that France and the US weren't on a path to meet in the finals.
