MLB: 2017 Minnesota Twins Thread

crap you're right. thought NYY had a better record.

so.. we;d play our old friends the yankees who are the bain of joe mauer's existence

yeah I'd almost rather play Houston as the Yankees have had the Twins' number the last 20 years. Just can't seem to beat them in a series.

Ah, f**k the Yankees. W-a-a-a-a-a-a-y past time for that karma to turn. We do need one more solid starter, though. Will it be Phil Hughes, once he rounds back into shape?

I have no faith in Phil Hughes. He had one good year with the Twins, but has been an underperformer even when he was with the Yankees. Hughes always seems to have one bad inning. I'd have more faith in Gibson turning it around or even Duffy being moved into a starting role. Mejia has potential. If he'd cut down on the walks, he might be all right.

Week ago Cle took all 4 games in Minnesota. Now today Minnesota on it's way to taking all 3 in Cleveland. So much for home field advantage.

Was hoping Gibson would last more than four innings on the national ESPN game tonight. Hard to listen to Boog and Tim K. doing their homer call for the Red Sox.

Gibson seems like a solid guy and you start to feel for him when things start to go south. He starts to get visibly irritated with himself. With that said, not sure how much of the same I can watch with him on the mound.

After Gibson got sent down, it looked like he had figured some things out after his recall. But he just doesn't seem to able to sustain any kind of success. The organization really had high hopes for him, too.

I see Hughes is off the DL and rehabbing......maybe he can give Molly some good innings for a change.

If the ESPN guys are right, it sounds like Hughes will stay a set-up relief guy. He looked good last night.

They're bringing up one of their good AA prospects (Felix Jorge) to start on Saturday. He may not be the absolute best of those prospects (still, pretty solid) but it's an exciting new name instead of one of the normal cast-offs from some other team..

Twins fans are a bit quiet after losing 3 of 4 in KC.

Are the Twins going to fade in the second half or will they muster a solid second half to remain in contention for playoffs?

At this point, I am thrilled with what they have been able to accomplish. An improvement of 15-20 games would have been, IMO, the best they could have hoped for.

The fact that they are in contention, not for a playoff berth, but for the division, at this point in the season is pure gravy.

Who knows? If I were betting, I'd say they'd fade.

But we are half way through the season and they are in the thick of it for the division snd wildcard. That's pretty good.

I feel the same way BUT with Gibson showing a pulse and Mejia having a couple good outings in a row perhaps they have stumbled into a little more starting pitching. Of course both guys could revert back to their usual form at any time.

Playing with house money at this point. Keep scuffling along a little over .500 and maybe get hot at the end and steal a playoff spot. Who knows?

And to think we could've swept the Angels - with Big Erv on the mound, and they just couldn't score enough runs for him. I'm sanguine, though.....they beat Baltimore last night, it looks like Berrios will be in the mid-double figures in wins this season. Sano is gonna get hot again at some point, and if Vargas can protect him a little bit, things could get interesting.

It would be surprising if Santana continues in the second half and becomes a 20 game winner for the Twins. Gibson appears to be done and we now have a very expensive set-up guy in Hughes. I doubt that the Twins are buyers in the trade deadline, but we see how they do in the next two weeks. Dozier gone or pick up Sonny Gray?
