NFL: 2014 NFL Draft

I think Manziel is a HUGE boom or bust player. So I want, and don't want, the Browns to draft him.

If he harnesses the play making ability he showed in college and can stay healthy in the NFL, he could be fantastic.
He could get killed by Lawrence Timmons his first year, or he could be the second coming of Fran Tarkenton. He could also implode because the things he got away with in college don't work against the big boys.

I have a new wish list for the Rams.

Pick #2: Take Sammy Watkins. He's just too good to pass up.
I say this because the there are THREE instant starting offensive tackles projected in the top half of the first round, the Rams should take the best available tackle at #13. I really hope that Jake Matthews falls down the board and we can trade with the Vikings.
Pick #13: Take Taylor Lewan or trade up to pick Jake Matthews if he falls.

I still think the Rams will take Greg Robinson at 2 and Clinton-Dix at 13, but I love the thought of upgrading WR AND OL. Keep Bradford healthy a full year, give him a true #1 WR. We may be a better TEAM with an upgrade at Safety, but let's build for the future instead. Can't wait!

I agree with you about taking Watkins and then getting a tackle with the 13th pick. Watkins and Austin would give you two great young receivers for the rest of the decade. If they decide to dump Bradford and go after a QB in the first round next year, that QB would be coming into a good situation offensively.

He would have been better off not doing his pro day. It was just horrible. He was just throwing balls to wide open WRs and couldn't hit any of them. It was pretty bad.

Come to find out that he normally throws with a glove on, and for his pro day he decided to throw without one, I guess to show that he could? Well, it didn't go well at all.

Combine his pro day with the doubts already about how skinny he is, and he's been dropping like a rock. Whether he should be or not is debatable, but the fact is that he is. And then Bortles comes out and looks impressive in his pro day. So that just muddled things up even more.

But I think you are correct, that these teams should go more by how they performed in games than they did in shorts and a t-shirt in their pro day. But this is the NFL. They do some stupid things.

I don't think players drop like rocks on teams boards as much as they do on the media's boards.

My bet is there is at least one team in the top 15 that doesn't give a damn about that pro day or how "skinny" he is.

I think of it this way, if the media is getting so down on Teddy and he didn't look good at his pro day, but a team doesn't actually care, they aren't going to tell Chris Mortenson about it. They are going to say "TB is trash we would never draft him" and then they will take him with their first pick and laugh all the way to the bank.

I remember when Maurice Claiborne was 100% going to the Vikings instead of Matt Kalil. I remember when EJ Manuel went at 16 to the Bills despite Geno Smith being the #1 guy for so long. I remember Manti Teo being a top 5 pick and then being undraftable until the mid to late rounds and then going in the early 2nd. And I remember Jadaveon Clowney being #1 overall even if he didn't play last season, to being a lazy bum who couldn't be trusted as a top pick, and then back to being the consensus #1 overall pick, and now it's 50/50 between him and Mack.

It is very possible that TB's bad pro day didn't kill his draft stock, but just gave teams an opportunity to **** on him so they could have a shot to take him.

I see it that way as well. In fact, i see him having a career almost like mike vick (maybe even with some off the field issues ). At times he'll look like one of the best in the league-- making plays out of nothing. But sometimes those guys try to do too much. They don't trust their teammates to make the plays. Vick always looked like he felt like the team would lose if he didn't make a big play every play.

TODAY IS THE DAY! So what I have heard is that the Vikings will NOT be going QB at #8. Also, it looks like they want to go to Defense for the first round pick. I do not see many great options at #8 for the D. Mayble the DT Donald. But I would like to see them try to move back and maybe pick up another CB later.

My impression is that they want to either trade down and get a qb late in the first or second round or take the best player available at eight. With a draft as deep as this one they really can't go wrong either way. You can't ever have enough quality linemen on either side of the ball.

Possibly. The Texans beat writer from the Houston newspaper has been pretty insistent that the Texans are going to go qb if they can't trade out of the first pick.

Houston should trade out. They could get some good picks if they can get a bidding war going. Draft this deep, they should be fine. I saw one yesterday where Cleveland gave them both first rounders this year to trade up. They did pretty well out of that.

From what I can tell, the asking price is too high - they want a package similar to what the Rams got for the second pick a couple years ago. With no can't-miss prospect like RG3 was, no team is going to give up that much.

NDSU OT 6 6 310 Billy Turner from Mounds View MN will go 2nd round tomorrow I cant wait!

as a Vikings season ticket holder, I want Anthony Barr LB. Im so sick of teams kicking our ***.

Hopefully let someone other than Spielman make the selection.

I don't get why people are down on Spielman. Yes, he made the Ponder pick, but his overall record in the draft has been very, very good.

I have been saying the same thing to all my friends who are not Vikings fans. They say he is horrible at the draft, but he has done a great job other than Ponder. Many starters on the team are from the Draft. Just don't let Spielman draft a QB and I am happy.

His overall record is just ok, like most of the GMs around the league. The problem is his biggest miss was Ponder. Fans remember that you missed on a qb pick; they forget that you were also the guy responsible for moving up to get cordarelle Patterson.
