2010 recruiting class

I really think so too. I've watched video of Ejim and he really looks like a defensive ace, which is something we've missed since Rahshon Clark left. Gilstrap, though very talented and athletic, is serviceable on D, but not a true stopper on the wing.

I'm glad we snagged Phillips. I think we all can agree that we could have used an athletic 2-guard to help handle the ball against the press and D up Bradley the other night. His impact is going to be noticeable immediately.

I haven't seen a lot of Railey, but what I read about him seems promising. Athletic and active on the inside. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like he's going to be somewhat of a project and though we'll need him to play next year, he probably Ejim is a great defender and athlete, and a good three point shooter who needs some work on perimeter skills, kind of similar to Gilstrap, but better defensively and less skilled. Tries to dunk anything and everything, which is a good thing.

Railey has been making some nice progress...I don't expect immediate contribution, but he can be really good in time. Best big remaining on the west coast from what I was told.

I think that team is more athletic than this year's. I really believe that the talent level and athleticism are continuing to rise.

If Brackins and Gilstrap are gone, the talent level takes a hit, it doesn't rise.

Gilstrap is the most important recruit in that class. Getting him another year is huge for our chances. If Gilstrap returns at the 3, and Ham, Dendy, and JVB all come back down low, we should be solid in the frontcourt. The addition of Phillips to our guard class could be huge. I really think that team could be as good as this one or maybe even better, if our PG play improves (been saying that last one for years).

I should have said "incoming talent." Good point. What I was intending to get at is that we're bringing in more talent each year.

If we're relying on JVB and Ham next year, we're in trouble.

Ham has played really well for a sophomore this year (especially lately). I think he'll take a nice step forward next year. Dendy has been solid as well. JVB is a decent backup option. I don't think it would be one of the top frontcourts in the Big 12 but it would be a competitive one at least.

If one of those guys replaces Brackins next year, we can't be much worse than what we've been with Brackins. Our Big 12 record with Brackins is 4-12, 4-12 and 0-1 so far. I'm beginning to think that he's been part of the problem. One thing I know for sure is that Ham has had more success converting possessions into points than Brackins has.

You honestly think having Brackins on the team is a problem?

Well his mo hawk does say, "look at me!" I mean who does he think he is? This is a team sport! And how bout he share some of the love as well?!?! He thinks he can just lead the team in scoring and be second in assists/rebounds and everything is going to be ok?!?!

The nerve!

I'll also add that I absolutely hate the way he pulls recruits aside to talk to them and help sell ISU.:jimlad:

I think so too. I don't like that KG says we are done with recruiting guards. I've sort of changed my philosophy on this the last month or so. More well-rounded guards would be HUGE impacts on this years team IMO.

Are we sure we can't go and sign another guy just like Philips!?

Well we didn't get Barnes did we? Obviously Brackins fault. If he was a lottery pick like some people think we would have got HB for sure

Not done, done...done for 2010...DG, Colvin, Buckley, Christopherson, Boozer, Lucca, Phillips, and Bubu. How many should we have?

Well Colvin is going to get kicked off the team, Buckley is going to transfer for lack of playing time, Boozer is gone, and Lucca is going to go home to play for $$$. So we definitely need more guards for 2010. And do you know who is to blame? Craig Brackins!!

How would you guys like to see the team, in terms of numbers at each position? 5,3,5? 6,2,5?

Yeah, we can look in our own conference and see examples of teams that are using up to 5-6 guards and having some success doing so (OSU, Mizzou, Neb, Baylor).

That being said, we might be a year away from adding another impact type guard. With DG, Boozer, Lucca, Oliver, Scottie, Colvin, Buck all presumably coming back next year, and adding Phillips, there's just not going to be room to add another guard.

Of course, the possibility is out there that we could lose a guy or two in that group. Hopefully not, but I'm not holding my breath on that one.

Oliver is not a guard.
