Will we add another point guard to fill LA Pomlee's scholly? Seems we may need a solid point guard as the biggest need on this team. I suppose it depends on if Gillstrap gets another year or not. Also can Damarcus Phillips play point or is he just a shooting guard and how good is he. Thanks!

There's no doubt in my mind that once Colvin shapes up and gets back to playing this year, he'll be solid for 2010-11, given he does more work in the offseason. Still never hurts though...
We're alright at PG... DG back next year plus Colvin at PG... plus we still have Buckley... why do we need another PG? We need more help on the wings and in the post...
If Colvin decides to stick with the Cyclones, he is going to be a very good point guard. Could be great with him at point and Phillips at the 2.
I really think Colvin can be great, but point guard is so important it prob would be good to be getting a recruit lined up who is a solid point guard... Really missed Colvin last night to break the pressure. Garrett is better but still does not seem to handle press very well and will see alot more of it...
I'm not sure how we are going to sign more than the 3 we have now. In one way of looking at it, JVB's medical redshirt takes Pomlee's schollie next year.
With JVB redshirting, everyone on the team has potential eligibility left next year. At this point, most are assuming Brackins and Gilstrap won't be back.
So:
Brackins -> Ejim
Gilstrap -> Phillips
Pomlee -> Railey

We need guards that can penetrate, dribble, shoot, defend, score, etc. In other words, we need more well-rounded guards. Philips is one. Colvin has the potential but hasn't shown he can consistently shoot or handle the ball (seems careless and not a highly skilled dribbler at times, and yes I know he's a freshman)
It's true the big boys get these type of guards but we've had our fair share over the years too.
Who are those two Wilkins and Clyburn where do they play and how good are they? Thanks..
Both JUCOs. Wilkins has 3 to play. He is a 4 man from Southeastern CC in Iowa. Pretty well skilled. Clyburn is a wing player from Marshaltown CC. High School teammate of Buckley. Pretty athletic. Watched both at the JUCO Jam last fall. Didn't get to see Wilkins play as much as I was looking at other teams, but was decently impressed with his skill set. I wasn't sold on Clyburn's shooting from the perimeter at the time, but he got to the rim pretty much at will.
Cook is actually 2011. Melvin Ejim will be joining the team next year. I know what you're saying though.

I think that team is more athletic than this year's. I really believe that the talent level and athleticism are continuing to rise.
I really think so too. I've watched video of Ejim and he really looks like a defensive ace, which is something we've missed since Rahshon Clark left. Gilstrap, though very talented and athletic, is serviceable on D, but not a true stopper on the wing.
I'm glad we snagged Phillips. I think we all can agree that we could have used an athletic 2-guard to help handle the ball against the press and D up Bradley the other night. His impact is going to be noticeable immediately.
I haven't seen a lot of Railey, but what I read about him seems promising. Athletic and active on the inside. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like he's going to be somewhat of a project and though we'll need him to play next year, he probably won't see big minutes until year 2 or 3?

Depends on our depth, I think, for Railey. We'll have Ham and (I think) JVB, along with Dendy. Unless Brackins comes back, I'd bet that Railey sees the floor plenty as a freshman. If Craig does come back, then I would assume that Railey doesn't see a whole lot of time as a freshman.
That's my first guess this morning.
Gildrtap and Brackins are both likely gone IMO. At least thats the way it look right now when we are activly recruiting so many new guys.
Yeah, purely speculation, but I have a hard time evisioning Buck returning. Also, if the Mother Land comes calling, what's to say Lucca doesn't leave too. Again, purely speculation, but it wouldn't shock me. Also, does anyone know how Oliver is progressing and if he's committed to being here for 5 years?
Craig ain't comin' back. If Gilstrap gets a waiver and comes back, as well as JVB, I would imagine G-strap will play a lot more inside and play as a 4 in a smaller line up with Ham and Dendy rotating like they are this year. If that's the case, Railey will definitely get minutes, but he'll be able to ease into the college game instead of being counted on for 15 minutes every night.
