2009 Prediction Thread Part 1: Non-Conf.

Yeah, I remember the last time the Iowa football team and fans came into Jack Trice Stadium that "full of themselves" - the year was 2005 and most Iowa fans couldn't envision winning that game by any less than 30 points (somebody cue the audio). Remind me - what happened that day?

I think that was the point of the  and posting the link.

Funny how a thread focusing on the OOC schedule turns into a thread focusing on Iowa, and only Iowa.

true that.

But, it is by far the most up interesting and heated game of the four out-of-conference.

We have a much more legitimate chance of going 3-1 non-conf. this year than we did last year. (and probably the year prior) We should beat Army and NDSU in solid fashion. Kent St. flat out does not look tough, and as usual Iowa is a toss up.

Of course there has to be a waaaayyy to early prediction thread! In creating one, I'm trying to numb the thought of the beating to be received tonight.....:dull: I'm also fired up to see the new staff in action, what can I say. (sorry for not posting in the other thread jaretac)

Keep in mind the 07 team losing was a product of poor QB play and poor OL play, 2 things that likely will be GREATLY improved in 09. I agree with your points though, and history tends to repeat itself. If this game were at a neutral site or in IC I would be far more comfortable......but we shall see, should be a good game.

Keep in mind that a pre-season prediction thread has been largely overrun by hawk fans giidy to tell us we'll lose again this year. I see 4-0 and Kent State will be our toughest non-conf game. A little letdown after the beating we give Iowa.

Coming in, the '07 game with Iowa wasn't hyped up much, but for the 2nd straight season the match-up will be exceedingly anticipated by both sides.

I think '09 will be another tightly contested battle. IU will have the edge with their O-line. I won't concede anything though as (of right now) I wont feel uncomfortable if ISU has to go exclusively to the pass when they have the ball to counter if the running game is not there.

Polar opposites can make for some interesting match-ups.

Haven't researched the other 3 opponents much.

One thing I keep in mind with road games is that we are under new staff with a different outlook for this team so I will not be surprised to see some road game victories

Ok, I think we are 4-0 and I'll tell you why. ISU right now is believing in a man who brought in one of the nations talked about OC & then he brings in a DC that has experience well into he years. Both men walked into thier old programs with nothing & turned them into winners. Then these young men that stood beside one another threw this trying time are more of a team now than they were when Chizk was here. So tell me this, how could you not think for one second that these coaches & these young men are not prefect for one another. I see the most special cyclone team I have ever seen in my life time & I think that this season is going to go down as one of the greatest years and turn arounds in ISU history & sports for that matter. GOD BLESS PAUL RHOADS & GOD BLESS THIS TEAM. Oh yeah one morething Hawk fans,

CAN YOU FEEL THE STORM A COMIN'

I don't know why, but I got this image as I read that:

3-1
We beat NDSU, EIU, ARMY and find a way to lose it on the road at Kent State.
I would be thrilled with that but would also be happy with 2-2 finding a way to lose a game we shouldnt have. New system young coach yada yada yada you know the scenerios

i disagree with the loss to iowa. they dont have greene or brodell. their passing game is terrible. plus their recruiting class wasnt very good, 11th in the big ten. i see us winning by a touchdown or two.

NDSU - W
Iowa - L
@ Kent State - L
Army - W
You do realize that we ran roughshod over Kent State last season, 48-28, and they lose that nasty quarterback? No way we lose, even on the road.

Iowa will be a scrappy game, but I think we win in the Jack. 4-0 non conference.

Apparently you've not watched us on the road. I knew we'd lose to UNLV and while I hope we beat Kent State, I will not be surprised with a loss.

"Us"? What gives you the idea that this will even remotely be the same team as last season?

Aside from which, yes, I have seen us on the road. If you want history, there's a certain A&M road game that I'd happily trot out.

Just shows that histories and trends are relatively meaningless.

As a person who actually roots and follows both Iowa and Iowa State (born and raised in Ames, but been a student in IC for last 6 years), I can say without question that Iowa is a superior team to my beloved Cyclones. Frankly, any Cyclone fan that says differently is kidding themselves.

Yes, Iowa loses Greene... but don't expect this to have a major effect on the W-L record. As good as Greene was last year, I'd say his play was a difference in one (Penn St.) maybe two (Purdue) games last year, and improved play from Stanzi over the course of a whole year will make up for any offensive production that is lost. A bigger question mark for them will be attempting to replace King and Kroul. But compare this to ISU's question marks... and it's not even close.

STILL, this does not mean Iowa is gonna blow away Iowa State. The Hawks are designed (both scheme and players) to defend power Big Ten football... and that's not what they will face against Iowa State in Ames. If Iowa State can improve on their red zone effeciency (which has been horrible against Iowa the last two years), then I'd be shocked if Iowa State doesn't come away with the W.
