Okay, so you think that's a good thing?
I don't think we can even begin to judge McD's efforts until he has been here a while with his guys...maybe in 2015 we can start to think about having a critical eye to the program.
bobber i think that there was some sarcasm there
I sure hope so... After reading some of the comments today, I just don't know some times...
I am so freaking tired of "the coach is wrong, we suck, if you like to be last you will be last your whole life, our system is not working" blah blah blah. Programs go through down years ITS LIFE. To keep up this negativity surrounding the program is not going to help with recruiting or the image of cyclone sports. If us as fans keep doing the crap like running coaches out of town our recruits are going to think twice about coming here. I mean hell, McCarney got the axe for a bad season here and there and now is getting rewarded for being a defensive coach at Florida and their program is happy to have him, boy he sucked huh? I think not. So going through coaches like we change our underwear is not the solution. This has been proven already as we are building in the right direction with the right coaching staffs in football and basketball. So if rebuilding is a huge problem for some fans, and you want success at the drop of a hat your negativity is NOT helping. There are other programs to root for and you can take your negativity elsewhere.
You also state that "programs go through down years ITS LIFE"...I agree...however, I want to have a minimal number of down years and a maximum number of up years...KU does it...why can't we?
I think too many of you have been playing with Star Wars toys for way too long in your mom's basement and know very little about college basketball.
Oh man...comparing us to Kansas in basketball? Take a look at the talent Kansas brings in because they're Kansas. Your son's high school coach could coach them.
It's like Kansas saying, "Why can't we have a top ten wrestling program every year...ISU does."
Why not? We play in the same league don't we? Ostensibly, we want to compete for championships in that league...don't we?
I love how you just totally discredit the hard work and coaching that a guy like Bill Self puts in and totally dismiss it by saying they win "because they're Kansas".
Maybe you should look at Self's history...he has won everywhere he has coached...including taking Oral Roberts to post season play and taking Tulsa to the Elite Eight. Heck, Illinois had only won 1 conference championship in the previous 10 years to his arrival there and he won the conference 2 times in his 3 years there while leaving his successor a very well-stocked cupboard. By the way...take a look and see where his successor has Illinois now after 5 years at the helm (with all of Self's recruits now out of the program)...FYI...they will not be "dancing" this year!
Yes, KU is a historically strong BB program but how do you account for Dr. James Naismith having a 9 year record of 55-60 (.478) at KU? He sure didn't win because "they're Kansas" and he invented the damned game!
