12/19/2008 Official Coaching Search Thread

So...let me play evil jerk for a second. Say I'm Jon Miller (i'm saying Miller is an evil jerk) and I want ISU to possibly lose Patterson as well (if they have him). Could I just get on my radio show and throw out that a "source" now says Patterson is the guy with the hope that Patterson gets upset and bails on ISU like he did for KSU?

If something like that would get a coach to say "no" to a school, well, wow...

They're still on the Barnett thing.

And they don't read this message board right?

I think Cyclone Fanatic needs to start it's own smokescreen. We don't want the media getting too close to JP's real plan.

I'll start. I heard Herm Edwards is upset that Carl Peterson was forced to resign. They have been close for years. Carl signed Herm to his first NFL playing contract and also tried to recruit him to play for UCLA. Needless to say, Herm is resigning from KC in order to accept the HC position at ISU.

I hate to be the message boards "debbie downer" or "clone2thebone" for that matter, but I dont think this makes much sense. Why would Patterson leave TCU? He has the best recruiting backyard in the nation, he has a straight shot at a BCS game, he turned down K State, and last year he turned down Minnesota who supposedly were offering him $2 million.

I have all the respect for Jamie Pollard in the world, and if he can pull this off I may get a tattoo of him on some unnamed part of my body. But I dont know how he could pull this off.

not really...I saw most of cyclone nation helping him pack.

If you don't think some fans were upset with Mac being let go, then your memory is awful. Hell, we still have people who are upset about it.

I'm not saying that Patterson is an impossible hire, but why would he spurn KSU and accept an offer from Iowa State?

Well, it makes a certain amount of sense. Reportedly he spurned KSU after his hiring got leaked in a way he didn't like.

It wouldn't shocked me too much if he agreed with ISU pending Pollard keeping a secret, which we know Pollard is a master at.

Now, I'm going to admit that this is still pretty much a pipe dream for me. I still think we'll end up with a much lesser name (Calhoun, Stoops or Venebles), but I'm beginning to see a way this could happen.

Patterson is 10-2 and playing in a Dec 23 bowl. A Big 12 team at 7-5 is playing on New Year's Eve, and an 8-4 Big 12 team is playing on New Year's day.

Just a thought...

Maybe Barnett isn't of interest to JP but is Terry Bowden a possibility? He has been out of coaching for a while but had some good success at Auburn and would be recognizable to recruits.

Agreed, but he turned down Minnesota who was offering in the range of $2 million, and trust me I know a mediocre big ten team who has 8 wins and a terrible schedule and is also playing new years day.

I don't want a guy that hates ISU as much as Terry does anywhere near ISU - unless the team he's coaching comes in, takes its beating, then finds his way right back out of Ames

Is it just me or all of these brand new posters kind of wierd? I've counted about a half dozen or so posters the last few days that joined in Dec and have just a few posts. And all of them are pimping coaches. Kind of makes me think Pollard is up to something...

OOOOKAAAAAYYYYYY.

I would say that most of the wierd ones have been here a while.

I think the first thing that ticked off Patterson about KSU was that they fired Prince halfway through his third season. Then a few days later the KSU rivals.com site reported a rumor that Patterson was hired as the new KSU coach.

TCU's Patterson denies report he's leaving for Kansas State | Sports | Star-Telegram.com

“Anybody who would do anything like this right now, when I have a responsibility to my own university before my season is over ... I’m not real happy with people who fire people before a season is over,â€￾ Patterson said. “And I would be less happy with anybody who would ever talk about taking another job until they finish their own.â€￾
