12/19/2008 Official Coaching Search Thread

As frustrating as waiting for the announcement is, I will happily wait if the result is positive, and we can get excited for the future of ISU Football. I just can't stand not knowing! Driving me crazy!

Another day another new name to put out there Norm Chow. He is one name that I have not heard mentioned at all just wanted to put it out there. Both college and Pro experience plus he is a great offensive mind.

I love how Marty Terrible makes its sound like he been in frequent contact with JP. Even though he has no clue whats going on.

Whats even better is how he states in his article... "since JP's short list of candidates has been very public" LMAO im sure he just calls JP up everyday and asks, so who are you talking with today? and JP's like oh my best bud in the whole wide world well today im going to talk to .... and .... see ya later, we mite need a witness to sign the contracts and i know you're not busy:biglaugh:

I like that idea...He's a great offensive coordinator, and points are what you need to win, especially in the big 12. He coached 2 heisman winning quarterbacks, which may translate into improved offense as well. He even coached in the NFL for a while. Can you say Pete Carroll?

On Barnett:

Have any of you ever been to Boulder, Colorado? This place is all but lawless in my books. Did Barnett have these types of problems at Northwestern, a campus I would say is a little more comparable in the student demographics. I know comparing Chicago to Ames might seem extreme, but these liberal college towns (IC and Boulder) just seem to draw student athletes to illegal activities. I think alot of the problems in IC are KF's fault, but I think alot of it has to do with the nature of the city. I feel similarly about CU and think that Barnett would do just fine in Ames, keep the kids out of trouble, and get us back to being a respectable program.

Yes, Iowa City = Boulder Lite. I was surprised I wasn't shot on-site in Boulder for being a white, straight, male.

I dunno, I seem to remember a certain player beating a kid up for....that's right....$2 and a cell phone...:biglaugh:. I think you will have a propensity for problems no matter where you go and who the coach is. What makes the difference is the stance that the coach takes on dealing with even the smallest problems. If the players understand that there will be NO acceptance of disciplinary problems, then those kinds of things won't happen. I don't think Barnett would be the kind of coach to do that though. And then there is the issue of who our provost is.

Of course there's problems everywhere you go. However, the environment can definitely play a key role in steering students towards making mistakes. Some of ISU's "drawbacks" (in the middle of nowhere, cold weather, small town) are positive factors when it comes to keeping kids out of trouble.

Hey now...

...it was $4 and a cellphone.

It was just his first year at UCLA, but their offense was miserable this year.

Barnett has ghosts in his past from NW, too. I just cannot imagine Jamie going this route. But, there are a couple of places I have heard his name come up today...this Rivals Radio mention, and an email I received this AM.

Did someone actually hear the Rivals Radio guy talk about this>?

I wonder if it was one of Barnett's buddies trying to prop him up. Kind of like what the Bowdens are doing...
