Shatel from the Omaha World Herald doesn't think Gill should take the ISU job. (Surprise, surprise)

He offers a few thoughts on ISU's search as well...

Eck, more of the same trash we heard when Dan left town.

Count on this: Iowa State will not find anyone who is a better fit for Iowa State or who will have more success there than McCarney did. Careful what you wish for, Jamie Pollard.

Jamie, get Gill and shut 'em all up.

Here's a fun thought I had this morning- Assuming JP meets his (supposed) goal of getting a coach hired this week, how cool would it be to have a welcoming press conference/pep rally at Hilton on Saturday night around 6 or 7, before the Jacksonville State game? There would be two big benefits: 1) There would be more people at the pep rally than if it were just a stand alone rally (no bball game) and 2) the pep rally could create some great excitement/buzz that would hopefully carry over to the basketball game. This basketball game could otherwise be kind of dead- weekend before Christmas, students leaving immediately after finals, etc.

I know that our top candidates have current head coaching duties and bowl games to prepare for, and we will hopefully be hiring someone with enough character to finish out their season. Would it be possible for a new coach to take Saturday afternoon and evening off from bowl prep to jet into and out of Ames?

Just a thought, but it would add a lot to this weekend, IMO. I'm looking forward to both men's and women's games either way.

Agree. Get Gill. Saw the "Speechless" video. The guy took no credit himself. Said that God gave them favor and that "the guys" did it. Hope the Good Lord leads him to Ames.

the thing is students would have to buy a separate ticket because the student tickets aren't valid for that game so there aren't going to be many students..either way though i would be willing to buy the extra ticket and make the three hour drive back here..especially if it was Gill

If this does take shape and we have a coach to announce before this basketball game, Pollard will open the doors for free get as many people as possible, give away as many press passes as possible and get a huge crowd to welcome the new coach shown on as many networks across the nation as possible.

NOW is the time to get a blow-out hire..we have the whole sports nation talking about ISU/Auburn, race, etc, etc, we need to nail this and show people we are serious (not that we werent before)

I don't think Gill would leave his program prior to it's first ever bowl game to be introduced as Iowa State's head coach.

no not this weekend, i dont want to stay any longer than i have to.

as far as the whole search goes, i hope that JP keeps his cards close to his chest. It may hurt to wait longer for our coach to arrive, but the way i see it any coach we want would be in a bowl right now, and if he is a head coach (of integrity, not like dickrod or chizik) he is not going to leave while he is supposed to be leading his team to a bowl victory. this is why miles didnt want to leave last year to go to michigan. they took dickrod, and he didnt coach in his bowl, whereas miles had a NC to coach for still and he wouldnt do his players like that.

It happens all the time. Buffalo knows they can't keep a coach of his prestige for long. They can't afford what a BCS school has to offer (financially and more).

What I gathered from the Buffalo message boards, is they know Gill is leaving, and just hope he goes to a good program.

If there is a pep rally Saturday, of course you open the doors for free.

Also, I'm okay with our next coach staying around his current appointment to coach a bowl game. Nebraska got a TON of recognition with Pelini in the national title game last year. Obviously, it's unlikely we get a coach from the BCS title game although there are rumors about the Oklahoma coordinators and I think a certain DMC is on the Florida sideline, right??? I kid, I kid.

Why is Paul Rhoads not mentioned in any of these threads, ok maybe he is, but not much? Isn't this guy a brilliant coach? Auburn fans didn't want him let go. We didn't. Pittsburgh didn't. I assume the issue with him is that he hasn't been a name on HC lists much? He is from Ankeny, and an amazing DC coach.

We're going to end up with Dave McCartney as the only candidate left:

It ticks me off to see the scant crowd in that video they keep showing of Gill getting the Gatorade dumped on him.

Does he not realize how much better that'll be at a BCS school.

Arrghh...oh well...next guy I guess.
