bring in turner gill,period.............
if gill is not the hire, mkie patton oklahoma's offensive line coach would be my second selection.bring in someone that can coach, not some dumb**** defensive coordinator who doesn't know his arce from a hole in the ground.

hire d. w rutlegde, who is presently the chairman of the high school coaches association in texas and was an outstanding high school coach at judson converse and who won many 5a championships in texas. would make an outstanding offensive cooedinator and would know how and where to recruit the best football players out of texas. rutlegde might even gice mack brown at texas fits about recruiting texas kids!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Meh - personally I'm a little burnt on coordinators from the "big time" Big XII schools and I'd like to stay away from them at this point. True, he may not be Cheezedick, but then again he may also have the same desire to jump up the food chain.

This Turner Gill story is everywhere now. If he is not hired as ISU's next coach I hope we don't get smeared into this race issue. Pollard really has to have his ducks in a row.Even when things aren't true if they are said enough people will believe them. Untruths can be devastating to recruiting. Without coming across as opportunistic, this would be a great time for the nation to hear the Jack Trice Story and the impact he has had on ISU. After a giant step with the election, This issue truly shows how bad it still is in some parts of our country. Good Luck Jamie, i have all the confidence that you will handle this search appropriately and show the country the integrity that ISU has.

I agree with the firing of Bobby Douglas and Wayne Morgan in favor of Cael and McD and then this could be used against ISU and Pollard. Please don't jump all over me and say I'm calling someone a racist I am not. I am speaking to the Untruths that were mentioned.

I don't understand what this means. Do people actually think that Auburn thought a black guy was the best for the job but decided against it solely because of race?:biglaugh:

Also, remember that Patterson didn't go to K-State the last time either, whent they hired Prince. This would be twice one of their former people "turned them down".

I think we hire the guy solely based on that!

Not sold on Patterson. I think he has it easy being in Texas. His recruiting would suffer moving up to Iowa IMO.

He would still be high on my list because there aren't that many good guys out there, but Gill is the man!

Yes, intentional or not, these changes show a pattern that could easily turn against ISU. I agreed with these changes at the time and still do. I just saw a poll on some sports show in which 50 percent of the people said Auburn made a racist hire. I would guess that most of these people polled don't know any of the details. Thats the danger of trying your case in the media.

ISUFan22, was Patterson the #1 choice for us last time through?

#1 choice for who? If you read the site, Patterson seemed to be at the top for many or near the top for most.

Pollard stated when Chizik was hired, we got our #1 guy from the start - so in that respect, Patterson wasn't #1. I'm curious if he was even interviewed by Pollard.

In reading those old threads (seriously, do a search for Patterson and go to page 7ish on the results), anytime the plane was in Texas - Patterson was the name CF members brought up - along with Chizik.

When comparing the resume's of Patterson and Gill - I think the only edge Gill has on Patterson is BCS conference experience.

I can see great cases made for either guy to be our next coach.

Actually either one would be an upgrade from Mr. Two Wins.

Patterson from TCU is what is being mentioned.

Patterson would be a bigger coup d'etat than Chizik was, imo. A proven head coach, who nearly went to the BCS, and has an arguably easier road to that (run the table in MWC and you're in). I hate to say this, but to come to ISU he would be taking AT BEST a lateral move, and probably a step down. Obviously he'd be in the local spot light more, here in Iowa, and we keep hearing about his wife's ties to ISU. This would be very similar to the old Johnny Orr hire, really.

The National beleif seems to be that Patterson has an easier road to the BCS, as it stands right now, at TCU then he would at ISU or KSU.

When looking at Patterson's team, not only have they played great defense over the years (naturally), but they scored some points this year.

Plus, he's got wins over Oklahoma, Texas Tech and Baylor in the last few years. We can't even say that. Oh, they spanked UNLV this year too. ;)

In almost every year he's been there - they've played one, if not two in some cases - teams from power BCS conferences. In some cases they got spanked. But in most, they either played a close game or won (as noted above).
