And then there is this little gem from Brad Dickson's Upon Further Review column in today's Omaha Worald Herald:

"The 21 year old daughter of former Iowa State coach Dan Mc Carney is set to go to trial on charges that include trying to kick a police officer. The kick went wide right, which served as a grim reminder of the 35 close games the Cyclones blew during the Mc Carney era."

Avoiding the fact that this is from a Nebbie columnist, you got to admit that there is a bit of humor and irony in all of that some where.

The Iowa City paper The Press Citizen is treating this trial like a murder case. Iowa City is full of rich girls who come from wealthy families (chicago suburbs) who drink way too much and have a hissy fit as they get arrested. Disgruntled Hawk fans are just using whatever route they can to vent built up anger that Dan Mc Carney owned them during his time in Ames. The paper is even known by locals as bad journalism. What she did was silly, but how some reporters are handling it is downright shameful.

Those close games are the reason McCarney is no longer coach at ISU.

You know what is sad, I think they built that into NCAA football '08. I lost a game last night on a last second field goal.

Yep, I wish somebody would have made DMac play some Playstation. You score when you can.

I will never forget the Texas Tech game where DMac tried to run out the clock with 3 minutes before the half. Tech used their timeouts, got the ball back, and went down and scored a touchdown. I knew right then that DMac was no longer fit to be head coach at ISU.

I work in HR and people do it all the time...If their dad is an exec here or there that means they pull that card all of the time."wad it up and throw it in the trash".....Next

I think it would be funny if they had "ask Mac" instead of "ask Corso". Your only choices would be to run a draw play or take a knee anytime inside of 3 minutes.

At this point in time I would just love to have some "close" games again.

So would I. But what can we do, our athletic director has taken us on his "next big step". How do you like it so far?

God forbid we ever try and improve. Pollard should've just given Mac a lifetime contract, not bother and try to improve our facilities. I'd rather go down swinging than go down sitting...

Our football program has never been on solid ground, a few good years here and there. I always remember the mens basketball team being competitive, even the "bad" years we could hold our own in Hilton and score a few major upsets every year. Wrestling program has always been above average to great. Womens basketball was terrible before BF came to town. I lived in Ames his first year, I could walk up to Hilton 10 minutes before gametime, buy a ticket for $3 and sit courtside. All in all probably the worst 3 years of ISU athletics in my 30 years of being a fan. Thank god for the womens bb program.
