***Official 2024 Transfer Thread***

Best answer i can give is who won't.
Lipsey, no way.
Gilbert, Jones. Final year 2nd transfer. Why would they.
Momcilovic, not happening
Rock, No
Paveletzke Possible but still second transfer.
Watson, Possible but would be unfortunate he's got a role here.
Biliew??? Shouldn't sounds like he knows the path to development is here for him.
Hamilton and Fish, no idea.

Summation, we have grads leaving. Two guard recruits and will be looking at adding possibly two bigs.
Momcilovic has a girlfriend at the University of Wisconsin, no? 'Not happening' doesn't seem to be an accurate assessment, IMO.

Yeah, I think Lipsey/Gilbert/Jones are obvious starters at this point. Hopefully the freshmen can be used off the bench to spell all three. The way TJ subs, they can definitely get good minutes that way.

If mommy stays I'm not sure if Jones is a for sure starter next year. Could they move mommy to the 4 potentially but who knows.

It might be situational, but if you've got a pair of guys that can hold down the 5 spot, Lipsey/Gilbert/Jones/Milan is one hell of a tough lineup IMO, only struggling with someone with a really big post up 4.

Usually teamed with Watson which kinda evens things out.
When Watson and MM are in together, I'm pretty sure that Watson is still the 4 for all intents and purposes. He definitely is on offense. On defense, it probably depends a bit more on matchups, but I think Watson is still usually guarding the spot that King was.

However, MM has still gotten time at the 4 with 3 true guards. According to cbbanalytics.com, in conference play, the combo of Lipsey/Gilbert/Jones/MM has gotten 82 minutes, and combos with one of the three guards sitting in favor of Pav have gotten another 25+ minutes. A majority of those minutes have come in the last 5 games, so it seems pretty clear that as Jones has forced his way into more playing time, it's pushed MM down to the 4 more often.

Wow I just learned today that it is in fact "For all intents and purposes" and not "For all intensive purposes" o_O

Opinions vary, but it seems to me the GF is more likely to transfer to wherever the BF has the best path to the next level. Why would Milan risk his future and transfer when he knows what he has here is preparing him so well?

Absolutely, sometimes that's the best option, but I wouldn't want to send him out their 30 minutes a game as a four. He's best as a 3 and that's what he'll be at the next level?

I know Curtis Jones isn't starting, but he's #4 on the team in minutes.

782 = Momcilovic
757 = Gilbert
733 = Lipsey (with a zero for one game)
650 = C. Jones

I don't know why he would think his "role isn't big enough." He plays more than half the rotation.

What exactly makes you believe that Milan is unhappy in his role here at Iowa State. He has been successful here and even if Wisconsin offers you more NIL it is not a better fit for him with that offense. Plus, assuming the status quo you would have a very good group of guards returning with you in Lipsey, Gilbert and C. Jones. I suppose its possible but as long as we stay competitive in the NIL game I simply don't see many kids wanting to leave a Top 20-25 program (and the best conference in America) to play in the Big 10.

I don't think he'll spend all his time there (unless it's a weird situation with both Watson and Biliew leaving), but it looks like in the last 5 games, he's played 10 or more minutes a game there. I could imagine that bumping up to even 20+ minutes a game at the four, but it probably depends on some things:
  • What does the situation at the five look like? (Do transfers + Rock take up all the minutes there? Or does Biliew play there at all?)
  • Does Watson develop a shot to get on the court more?
  • Will any of the guards other than Lipsey/Gilbert/Jones force their way into more playing time?
I'm personally of the belief that on question #3, the answer is yes, that the group of Pav plus the redshirt/true freshman guards will get more minutes than Pav is getting right now. To me, that will mean more minutes with MM at the four, and possibly Biliew taking minutes at the five.

Maybe she should transfer to Iowa State.

To be fair, Madison is a nice town and UW is an excellent school. Basically the entirety of my wife's father's family went there, and she was down to being a Badger or a Gator back int he day.

I could see Curtis. He's a legit player that's on the bench now. Unless they show him there is an option for him to start next year I could see some team giving him that promise.

Momcilovic - Money talks and he could get a large payday. See Hunter.. I would hope that doesn't happen but it def could. Could see the NBA come calling too if he has a strong tourney performance.

Pav at least has two years left so he could see his potential for a starting position his senior year. I would think he's want to stay unless he wants to go down a level to start again.

Now with unlimited transfers there is just no guarantee players stay. There has to be a lot of hard conversations the coaches have to have. The only player I would be very surprised would be Lipsey.. and Gilbert to a lesser extent.
I would be very surprised if our 2024/25 starting lineup doesn't include:

Lipsey
Gilbert
Curtis Jones
Momcilovic

Gilbert & Jones are both 6'4"+, so no concerns about being physically mismatched with a 3 guard lineup in the Big12.

My bigger concern is rebounding/defense from a post group of Momcilovic, Watson, Biliew, Rock, Fish and Portal?

My biggest question is Paveletze. I see potential for him getting 20-25mpg next year as the 4th guard in a 3 guard lineup. But I also see times this year where the physicality and quickness of Big12 opponents makes the game too quick for him this season. But I feel off-season conditioning could be a big help. Plus some offense sets that get him spot-up jumpers off motion/screens. That might help Watson & Momcilovic as well

Completely speculative...

Assuming we copy/paste the transfer big class of Osunniyi and Ward...

Lipsey
Gilbert
Jones
Momcilovic
"Osunniyi 2.0"
---
BEST TWO of (Hamilton, Nojus, Pav, and Pierce)
BEST ONE of (Watson, Omaha if he comes back, and Fish)
"Ward 2.0" OR Rock

A couple of the guys in my ( ) groupings up there depart and simplify the problem.
