IHSAA State Wrestling 2024

I’m having a text message convo w/ a HS buddy about the brackets now being 24, no sectionals any longer and byes in rounds 1 and 2.

What are your thoughts on this?

If they are gonna have 4 days and expanded brackets, I prefer 32 man brackets, no byes and top 3 from districts (or whatever needs to work to make the math come to 32 kids).

Total money grab by the state association for the tournament

24 is watered down IMO. It was a money grab by the boys association. If there is way to F things up, the boy’s association will have you hold their beer.

32 would be a complete sheetshow. In 1A there were districts with 4 wrestlers in a weight. Plus it would add another day yet most likely.

24 is ridiculous. 32 is insanity.

For the record I’m in favor of the old format of 16 wrestlers and sectionals.

I wasn’t aware the format even changed until this year.
It changed last year. From what I heard, the Well contract had a couple years left but teams had basically told the state to F themselves with the duals the day before traditional and many teams made it a JV meet. So the state felt forced to move the duals but had 4 days in the contract so they decided to add wrestlers to pay for their screw up.

Remeber these are the same morons who sold the championship games/playoffs to a chicago station for like 20-30k/year.

Tony Hager was on KXNO a couple days ago & said he thought they were going back to a three day tournament maybe next year.

Anyone know what Grant Kress’s injury is? Concussion? Just watched the match replay. Voinovich let go after the whistle but while Kress was still upside down with only one (i think; hard to see the other) hand on the mat. 3a 157 semi. Voinovich advanced on inj def and was up 4-1 at the time near end of 1st.

What's your beef with Don Bosco?
Well if you have to ask you must be a supporter of Don Bosco. I admit they are very good and I might have a slight bias against them.

That being said, most people I know that have come from there, come off as arrogant a holes, including the coaches. In some sports I feel like they use the Catholic school advantage even more then most. (should have played up a class in football for years). Trying to recruit kids to Bosco from almost 2 hours away is a joke... want me to go on? It generally comes down to how they act around there.

Back in the day at sectionals and districts the whole gym used to cheer when a Don Bosco kid lost. That says something and almost have to feel bad for the particular kids.

Gilbertville has one school. It's not one of the towns that has multiple schools in it. 90% of the kids who go to Bosco grew up in Gilbertville. They're just damn good at wrestling. Plus they all like to party...and I like to party too! Haha

The Catholic school advantage? Yes, go on….

Except they didn't. That was all IHSSN/Krogman.

The IHSAA can't wait for that TV contract to expire, now that IHSSN is charging for a bunch more content than before. And yet, the Association is the one somehow taking the heat for the Network's decision(s).

Jake Knights re-attacks vs Ayala were filthy. I can't wait to see him vs Pearson. I hope ISU can get both Pearson and Knight.
Not looking good for Knight to ISU as Knight was wearing a Hawkeye t-shirt prior to semi match. For some reason I think Dan (& his brother Steve) has an issue with ISU. I think it goes way back but don’t why. I hope I’m wrong as there are several younger guys on that team that would be great recruits in the next few years.
