Tough day for EIU hoops hopes

Lol no. We will be ahead of Wisconsin and Illinois on the initial seed list reveal but we don't have some insurmountable lead on either.

ISU will be in the 8-9 range Saturday on the seed list. Wisconsin and Illinois will be 14 or 15ish. It is helpful if either take a couple more Big 10 losses, especially Wisconsin.

Wisconsin's NET took a pretty big hit over the last two weeks. The lead is wider than you realize. As it sits right now Wisconsin is closer to a 5 than they are a 3.

Wisconsin still needs to go to Purdue and faces off with Illinois. The way they are playing they aren't winning both of those.

We would have to lose 3 or more games to drop below Wisconsin.

I'd call that horribly wrong.

It's more likely than not we lose 3 more games including the Big 12 tournament.

It's pretty possible we could lose 3 more in the regular season too. 3 road games left - 1 against Houston. 2 home games left against Top 25 opponents.

Bracket matrix has 106 bracket projections on it.
6 of them have Wisky 1 seed better than ISU.
15 are same.
58 have ISU a seed better.
20 have ISU 2 seeds better.

Overall average ISU 2.93, Wisc 4.0

For some of them, I think that it's more a reluctant confirmation that the things that have been said about Fran are true. That realization doesn't hit everyone at the same time, because plenty of their fans have been ready to move on for a while now.

Garza and the Murrays covered up some pretty glaring issues, and now that the shine of a decent run with them has worn off you realize you wasted 2 generational talents with a horrible supporting cast.

Hok fans have to realize that this year's team was going to be a trainwreck. No Garza, Murrays, etc... what do you have left? This really is not a surprise.
Yea but they can't help themselves. Going into their game against ISU they were drooling over the possibilities of the season and how they had a lot of talent just waiting to emerge.

I think that is the stunning issue with the group they have now. Other than Freeman ( and I question if he has the mental toughness) they have nothing to develop. Perkins might have the skills somewhere but has really been disappointing. Are you banking your hope on Sandfort, Harding and Dix taking a big step forward?

If you are counting the big XII tournament we would need to lose 4 to drop behind wisconsin. It would be in the horribly wrong territory no matter how you slice it.

Yep, the Iowa media was fawning over the potential of this team when the season started. They were all expecting Payton Sandfort to have this huge growth trajectory but it's pretty clear that his ceiling should have been a solid player in the Valley. Perkins will be out the door, who do they bring back next year that can even put the ball on the deck and create a shot? Next year will be the end of the Fran era because I don't see them being any better.

Disagree. Things feel really good right now but losing 3 more regular season games and not winning the Big 12 tournament is a strong possibility.

KenPom has ISU finishing at 12.64 regular season wins. So more likely to finish 13-5 but 12-6 is almost just as possible. 12-6 and not winning the Big 12 tourney wouldn't be a "horrible collapse" and would probably still get you a 3 seed in the NCAA tournament.

I don't like getting the cart before the horse. Last year we went 2-5 in the last 7 games. The focus should be on going 1-0 for each of the next 7 games. Things will take care of themselves after that.

And wisconsin probably needs to win out besides the purdue game to get a 3 seed. Almost everything would have to go wrong for us to drop below wisconsin and Illinois. One of them has to lose their head to head and both are likely losing to purdue.

All their other games hurt their metrics just for playing. They might drop in some of the metrics for the other 4 even if they win.

We want Iowa to beat Wisconsin this weekend.
The hell we do. There is not a single scenario in the entire universe where I would want Iowa to win. None. Notta. Period.

Even with Kansas there would be a couple scenarios where we'd want them to win :puke: to help us by giving a team a loss. That's never the case with Iowa. Nobody should ever want anything good for Iowa, ever.

Hell, I'd even vote for Russia or China over Iowa in the Olympics.

I wouldn't mind them knifing Wisconsin for us.

Wisconsin is a direct competitor for Omaha... knocks them down a peg or two.

Also makes the win against Iowa look that one epsilon better than it does right now.
They will find a way to win that one. Wisconsin is not that good and this is basically Iowa’s Super Bowl at this point.

I always prepare myself for the worst possible outcome. Part of being an ISU fan
