UNI Dual (2/11/24)

25 points in the 1st period out of a hwt. There's something you don't see every day.
Can’t say I’m really surprised by basically anything that happened in that dual. Some good and some bad things.
Obviously hope for better results out of 125 and 157, both gave up early takedowns and late defeat.

57 and 74 were two of the wilder matches I’ve seen all year. Cody was in control of 90% of that match. He can EASILY flip that one. I’m not worried. 25 and 97 are what they are and 84 is just a tip of the cap to that guy. We looked good. Casey is somehow kind of seeming to fly under the radar. He’s building something this year to me.
For reference, Rahnavardi lost to McDougald 3-2, Lovett 7-1 and Watters 8-0.

I have lost all faith in our current 197. I’m not sure how you can be a 3x IA state champ coming in, spend 5 yrs training under this staff, and currently be at this level. It is SOOO frustrating.
Biggest blunder for me was 57. That one shouldn’t have gone the way it did. Can’t give up that late of an escape and then that penalty just cost the match
That was such a weird match. Cody is so entertaining. He’s almost always in control. Had a couple of slips that can easily go the other way. He will only get better. His hips are unbelievable.
iA HS wrestling at 190 and up is very weak. Kids just avoid cutting weight and add weight and it puts you in state if you have any ability at all.
I think a lot of people are sleeping on Downey. He’s better than people think he is. Could make the podium
Downey is damn good. The thing though was Chittum cost himself the match with the blunders. He will look back, learn and move forward. We will see a rematch and that'll be fun to watch.
Dresser grabbed him after the dual and had a long discussion with him.
125- was very close match despite the score. Thought he wrestled ok, but he really struggles against taller guys, this time he got countered on a takedown, came back and finished a shot, had a nice shot at the end just lost the scramble story of his season C for what he's shown d- from preseason expectations.
133- tough, needs to clean up head hands as guys will finish more when they get that deep, hard to criticize a tech. B
141-happel is tough he looked really good. A-
149- took care of business. A
157- there was his biggest "freshman" match of the season. He's competing with everyone hope he makes a run in March. C-
165-not much to say A
174-hard to even evaluate that match I need to watch again, but the result is a major so B+
184-i like what I see from him hope he has someone tough to push him in the room so he can make a jump. St john? Does kyven still scrap sometimes?
